Default VX-2200 TX issue

I have programed my radio with the channels that i need for now. The only ones that I talk on are MURS and a couple Marine channels. However when I key up and talk nothing comes out on the other radios. They will light up like something is being received but no sound is coming out. Any ideas? Thanks Dave

Sounds a lot like a PL tone mismatch. Double check the receiving radios and compare the PL tone on the receive side to what your Vertex is transmitting with. You obviously want all that stuff the same.

I looked through all the menus and didn't find anything directly related to PL. However under the basic alignment it talks about doing an alignment for a PL reference. I performed the basic alignment and still no sound out of the other murs radio. Is there anything else that I am missing? these are just basic channels for the MURS and Marine channels. I wouldn't think that there would be anything special to set up other then enter the freqs.

Is there something that I am missing?

Thanks Dave

25 watts for MURs? really.....but that being said.....what was said Pl tone mismatch....if your trying to match the "number" of the PL some radios the "numbers" dont match.....i know they list them 1,2,3 etc....some radios start at zero so you could be off by one tone...IMHO

Actually mine is a 50 watt Radio and yes really. I drive a service truck that I run in the woods working on logging equipment. When I call out the mile markers I want to make sure the rather large log trucks (200,000 lbs loaded weight) coming in the opposite direction hears me.

Thanks

I just have to ask, where are you located at? If you are in the USA, then using this radio in a factory stock condition on both MURS and Marine frequency's is illegal as hell.

MURS is limited to 2 watts of out put power but can be used with external antenna.

As for the marine, it is illegal to use marine frequency's in any course of action that is directly not connected with marine activitys and radios are to be type acepted under a differant set of standards.

So, I guess I would say that if you are using this radio in both of these services, you are illegal

Beside all that, for the most part, why would you need PL if you are trying to talk to a bunch of truckers, (who are also using illegal equipment)?

As for the programing of the pl it is called Sub Audio and is the column to the right of the transmit frequency.

Until you get all the information loaded into the program and then loaded to the radio, you DO NOT want to do ANY alignment, which you need a communications service monitor to do it any way.

Well I should have done more homework instead of just buying a radio and trying to program it. With that being said the marine radio and murs will travel farther then CBs over the hills and mountains thus being the choice if you are working in the woods. Yes I know the marine radios are not to be used however many still use them and I wanted to use it for monitoring more then anything but if the need arose I could use it. I didn't however realize that the MURS was limited to 2 watts. Now that will change things.

After your post I did a little more research and found that the 25 watt model can be detuned to 1 watt. The price of education.

Now that I am a little more educated. When I buy the lower watt model and program the channels in 1 watt I would think that the MURS channels wouldn't need to have a PL or would they. I am also thinking that the Marine channels would be the same. Any thoughts

Also I found a post where one mentioned that the Mic Audio vs D SUB15 needed to be selected but I can't find that selection anywhere. This was also on a 3200 model.

Again, I ask where are you located? Most logging trucks and company's that I know use CB for road safety in the mountians and some use a commurical radio for their company operations.

At least that is the way it is from Northern Calif thru Oregan and Wash and Idaho.

Marine Radio frequency's DO NOT USE PL in a normal configuration. A normal marine radio will have OPEN channel as a normal use and then they have a special funcition called 'selcall' built in that is used for differant purpose.

Yes, maybe MURS/MARINE frequency's MAY travel further over the hills then CB's, but if you are the only one on those frequency's, then you might as well not have any radio.

Again, MURS may be fine (at 2watts) but the marine is a very big NO NO.

Sorry thought i mentioned my location, ether way its northern Maine. Cb's are used on the highways and MURS are used in the woods. Each road has a channel assigned to it for communication on murs. Yes just about all the trucks have a cb but no one uses them in the woods.

Just a thought but if it was a PL issue of some sort I wouldn't be able to hear anyone talking on MURS right. Well I can hear everyone talking (same with the Marine Channels that I monitor). I am also using a small kenwood hand held (MURS programmed) that I can use to test mine with. That is how I found out that my radio is not TX.

Thanks Dave

Found the issue i think. The standard pl for murs is 100.0. So i am told. I had none in there. Once i have my new radio that is how i will program it.
