Unhappy VX-354 VHF Programming with CE44

I have programmed quite a few of the VX-354 UHF radios, but this is my first attempt with the VHF version (yes, it actually IS the VHF version), and I'm apparently doing something wrong. No mater what frequency I program into the radio (commercial, ham, etc.) when I try to transmit, it goes into transmit for about 2 seconds, and reverts to receive and I get a triple beep warning. This happens on both wide and narrow channels. The red TX LED comes on for the two seconds and then goes off. The squelch then opens and receives for a couple of seconds.
It's acting as if VSWR protect is kicking in, or I have some parameter set wrong. I've compared all the other parameters to the UHF versions that work fine, and I don't see where anything is set differently that would affect the transmitter. I don't have any other VHF antennas with me right now that I can try. Anyone have any other ideas?

I could be wrong, but I think the VX-354 take the CE-86 software, not CE-44.

Correct, the 350 series radios use the CE 86 software. The CE44 is for the 160/180 series.

Same cable,

Sorry, you are both correct. I have both series (VX-180 & VX-354) in use here. It is the CE86 that I am using. The rest of the problem is still the same. Also, I don't believe the CE44 will work at all with the VX-354. Sorry for the confusion.

Just got off the phone with Tech Support. They have never seen this problem before. Since I can use the same computer, cable, and CE86 version to program UHF radios successfully, they feel the radio itself is DOA. I'll be returning it to the dealer.
