If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I am trying to wire up a horn/lights at my fire department using a Vertex VX-2200 radio. I have found the service manual and am using the d-sub 15 connectors on the back of the radio. The pins are open collector outputs, which I have no experience with. I have already configured the radio to alert with the 2 tone decode. When I test pins 9-12 with a voltmeter I get 0VDC. With open collector outputs, do I need to use a pull-up resistor or should I run a diode across the relay coil to pull the current?
Thanks.

Here's a link to the service manual. http://www.repeater-builder.com/yvs/pdfs/yaesu-vx-2100-2200v-service-manual.pdf

Get a small relay, connect one side of the coil to any pin 9-12, the other side to pin 15. Program the pin 9-12 to active on alert.

Connect the contact side of the relay to what device you are trying to activate.

Cabletech,
I continue to get 0VDC on pins 9-12 whenever I activate the respective I/O port 1-4 in the programming menu, however I get 5VDC on pin 13/ port 5. Port 5 is only allowed to be set as an output. Ports 1-4 are open collector outputs, which from what I've been reading are logic outputs which require additional components to work. According to the service manual " Pin 9 - 12: ACC1 - ACC4 (ACCESSORY PORT) These port features can be programmed via the CE82 programmer. Each port is open collector output which can sink approx. 100 mA when active. Max. output 16V. When the input is selected, it becomes active between 2V and 16V... Any ideas? Thanks.

I was able to get this working. Set your horn alert to ports 1-4. The pin will NOT give you a positive voltage when active, instead you will get a negative output. Run that wire to your relay and connect it to 85 (ground). Then hook up 12v to 86 (trigger) and 30 (power) on the relay. After you do that, connect a diode with the anode end to 85 (ground) and the cathode end to 86 (trigger). Once you activate the button and your radio alarms, your relay with give you 12v out.
