Trooper Injured/ Rockingham Co.

I don't know the circumstances, but a VSP trooper had a subj. in custody. The subject then fought and injured the trooper. He then ran off into the woods. VSP and the county, as well as Harrisonburg PD have units in the area looking for the guy now. This is in the Bergton area- Rt. 259 & 820.

As for the trooper, I heard Culpeper advise the Sgt. when he marked up that his injuries were minor. Rescue did transport him priority 2 (moderate as opposed to priority 3- good), however. That could be just because the patient is a law enforcement officer... let's hope that was the case, anyway.

As always, I am not happy that something of this nature has happened. I can only that those searching for the criminal are using the biggest and most fercious canine available. Needless to say, if that is the case, I would hope that the dog finds him before the searchers do.

Hey...give us an update when you get one! Hopefully you're right and McGruff will take a big ol' bite out of his A!$....I mean CRIME....yeah....that's what I meant.

From what I understand the trooper is pretty banged up, but is o.k. The subject was in the front seat and handcuffed. The cuffs made a nasty weapon. (No cages in state police cars.)

The guy then ran out into the woods (lots of woods in the area). A deputy came into contact with him later that night and they had a major scuffle and rolled down a large bank. The subject was able to get away then too. I heard a BOL broadcast for him this morning, but I don't know if they were able to get him today.

There hasn't been any news coverage... news is pretty lax here on the weekends, especially if it doesn't involve Harrisonburg or one of the cities in Augusta County.
