I'm absolutely coming to the conclusion that the simulcast issue suggested is a significant factor in receiving the Roanoke Co P25 system, at least in certain locations. As I've driven around the area over the past couple of weeks reception on my 396 is very different depending on location. Out in Daleville where I live, I receive the system well with very marginal signal strength. In Glenvar, west end of Salem, I received the system well. Around Valley View Mall, Peters Creek Road, Plantation Road the radio fails to decode much of anything.... motorboating at times and dead quiet the remainder. Signal in these areas is 4-5 bars.

So, the problems are not the system itself, nor is it the 396..... Works just fine in some locations. Clearly, other factors........ Interested in others experience in and around the County.

All four sites are P25 at this point.

Have you had a chance to do a side by side comparison with a GRE500/PRO-106? I would be curious to see who does better this these RF saturated areas. The fact that my 396 did such a crummy job with P25 is the reason why i picked up a PRO-106 and its 100% better.

Yes, but it's still mostly analog traffic coming from those sites... well, as of last weekend, at least.
