Possible Changes in Norfolk
Hi Folks,
Saw this in yesterday's Virginian Pilot.
http://home.hamptonroads.com/stories...8899&ran=44401
May be time to start scanning Norfolk in open mode to start hunting for new talkgroups.

Last I was told at NAB Little Creek that this will be happening to get the Bases included in the radios.

Thats will be hard since all the bases are in the 140.xxx range..... Plus all bases have either Norfolk Portables or Va Beach portables since they run Mut-Aid with them.

The article in the Pilot only suggest restructuring and adding extra patrols so they have better response to communities, and the concern for three areas of increase crime rate.
Norfolk's shortages of officers is no different then other HR cities, we in Suffolk are always running at least 15% below compliment requirements. Each shift has a few officers from the previous shift--or from the following shift, on overtime to accommodate needs to keep the two sectors optimal. Often, they can't reach requirements, thus the Sgt will shift officers from one sector to an area that will allow them to cover parts of both sectors. We have a few defections to Norfolk and Hampton due to better pay/bennies. 1st responders are essential to Public Safety, we gotta pay them for their important job in our community.

Changes in Norfolk?
I'm a retired Paramedic from Norfolk now living in Texas, and after seeing the post on Norfolk's radio system I sent a E-mail to a Battalion Chief who I've known for 25 years and he said that he has heard no plans to change the system. He said the only thing he has heard is the rebanding and that is still a ways off.
He did say he would contact me if he finds out any Info on system changes.
Hope this Helps............

Mike,
I think Cris suggested, ID Search or Open Scan may be in order to find the new TG's for a third precinct.
The current Norfolk PD precinct 1 & 2 each have three TG's assigned which are only used by the precinct. A third precinct should evolve into at least 3 more talkgroups previously unheard.

Ok all, here is the scoop. As a Norfolk dispatcher this is what we are being told is going to happen. On the list below, channels E and F will become the 3rd precinct channels, with channel E being 3rd pct main and F being the alternate. Animal control, warrant office and towing and recovery are all being moved to channel G. The only changes that will need to be done to the radios is the alpha display will have to be updated to display the correct channel name.
DEC HEX Mode Display Description
50576 c59 Parking Services
64912 fd9 Special Enforcement Division (SED) Tactical
64944 fdb 2nd Precinct Tactical
64976 fdd 1st Precinct Tactical
65008 fdf O Mutual Aid
65040 fe1 E N Secure
65072 fe3 A M Secure
65104 fe5 A L Secure
65200 feb I Detective Alternate
65232 fed H Detective
65264 fef G Metro Tactical
65296 ff1 F Special Enforcement Division (SED) Alt/Animal Control/Towing
65328 ff3 E Special Enforcement Division (SED)/ Warrants
65360 ff5 D 2nd Precinct Alternate
65392 ff7 C 2nd Precinct Main
65424 ff9 B 1st Precinct Alternate
65456 ffb A 1st Precinct Main

Hi KBB,
Will the 3rd PCT not have a TAC T/G?
I never hear too much on the 1st and 2nd PCT's TAC's but just re-read your post and was wondering.
Also while I have your attention, what are the "Ocean" units? Are they overlap shift or something along those lines?
Thanks~

1st,2nd, SED Tac channels will be on the B position due to the radios only having 16 channels. The fire radios are green.... I meant the black radio for PD.

KQ4Z,
Im not sure if they will have a tac channel or not. For now I would say no. The two on the pct channels are hardly ever used. So they may not get one for the 3rd.
Im not sure if all these changes they are making are temporary or not. Im curious to know if the radio shop can create some more sub fleets in the future.

Will Metro TAC stay on G with SED or will that go to another TG?

Hi KBB,
I kind of suspected as much on the 3rd TAC T/G as like you said the 1st and 2nd don't use theirs much anyhow.
Thanks for the clarification.
Also could you enlighten me on the "Ocean" units? Are they overlap?
Thanks in advance~
