Default State Unit Numbers

Lets all do some research into unit numbers, and CTCSS/DCS tones; they seem to be the only things that arent readily available.

State Police unit numbers are discussed on the VA State Police page entry on this site. Check the RR Database for VA.
As far as the squelch tones, I think this is a great suggestion, I'll try to get those on this evening...

enjoy

I don't quite understand how VSP's PL tones work in the Northern VA area (Area 7 HQ) on 159.000

If I set my radio with an RX PL tone (squelch ONLY opens when a PL is transmitted), then I notice I am sometimes missing traffic (BUSY light blinks).

In other words, the dispatcher seems to be turning the TX PL on and off at different times, and I don't know why....

I don't know what radio you are using, but on my 780 I notice the signal strength meter going up & down when there is no traffic on channels that I have programmed without pl tones.

Try programming 159.000 CSQ, and see if you are missing traffic on the 159.000 w/ the pl. If you can, you may want to put the CSQ channel directly after the pl channel in the scanning order. If the CSQ channel starts coming up regulary it sounds like you are picking up another channel. Are you close enough where you can receive another division?

I know I'm not within range of another district. As bad as this sounds, I'm thinking it may be a problem with my radio (Motorola MT1000). I'll have to open it up and see if I can find anything wrong. Sorry for the possible misleading post!

Richmond also uses 159.0000, and I can't help but think that it gets through now and then. Also, interference/intermod/overload will make a busy light come on. Thus the reason for PL in the first place.

Best thing is to watch the channel on CSQ and find out what's making your light come on.

Good luck.
