Intersting note from the story:

"Schneider said they have markedly better sound quality and added that officers are already benefitting from new features they have been trained on, like a more accessible emergency identifier — the switch an officer would trigger in critical situations, such as “officer down.”"

It's true this button will serve its intended purpose and be greatly valuable when the time comes and it's needed.... However, it seems that 99% of the time, the users hit the button accidentally - and many times don't know how to reset it. On the newer radios/systems, the display even shows things like "Emergency Received" which then results in others panicking and thinking they hit it and initiating other alarm.

Hopefully they (will) see more value in this new system than just that button..... hopefully. Then again, this is a press story....

I didn't receive a control channel from the system on Saturday. I was in the area of the Verizon Center with the Radio Shack 800 MHz antenna on a 396XT. I believe I had the primary and alternate control channels in the scanner. I don't know if they're using one of the other frequencies as a control, but I would think I should have been able to receive the system.

The XTS5000s and HT1250s they have been using forever already have emergency functionality via MDC and they accidentally hit that all the time.

The control channel is up and running on 170.575. I am running Pro96Com on the system and so far I am only getting traffic on talkgroup 5 100% encrypted.

The old analog system is still being used and it is not patched to the new digital system.

I believe the US Capitol PD are using this system exclusively. No more analog simulcasting as far as I know. I listened on the way home from DC on thursday afternoon and never heard anything from the analog channels. Mostly was all encrypted comms from the new digital system. Many different talkgroups were used.
