midnightcaller,
I'll take all the help you want to give :-) Colorado is known to have some poor HF capabilities. I'm hoping with the moist ground and the low altitude that DXing in all bands would be better in Washington. Am I right in that assumption? I can't wait to get the move over with and get my antennas back in service. It might be a few months before I'm settled. Still have to retire and sell the house here, but I figure it's never to early to get info about the area. Thanks for your response.

I'm from the little town of Goldendale, in Klickitat County. Not much goes on around here. I use a pro 97 and an AOR AR-3000 (on long-term loan from my grandpa) and listen to WSP, Goldendale PD, KCSO, some Oregon frequencies (The Dalles, Wasco County, Sherman County, Hood River), and various fire departments/districts (I am a volunteer firefighter so sometimes I'm the one on the radio), and the DNR. I can't pick up any trunked systems, but I have taken it to the Sea-Tac area and listened to them. I also listened to the planes at the Gathering of Warbirds Father's Day weekend airshow at the Olympia airport.

Howdy.
I live in central Ohio but my family and I make a few trips a year to Whidbey Island. The last time I was there (January 2007) I used an RS Pro-97 for monitoring. I was able to clearly hear Whidbey NAS, Oak Harbor/Island County, and a bit of garble from Friday Harbor / San Juan County. I'll be visiting again sometime soon, but I got rid of the '97' and switched to a newer RS digital handheld. I'm very curious to know if any of you that live on -or- around Puget Sound have any tips for using RS's digital scanners in that area, especially while trying to monitor analog transmissions.
Much Thanks!
Andy

PS - The last time I was at Whidbey, they still had road signs indicating that 'REACT' monitors emergency CB transmissions. Is this still the case?

Just dropping in to say hello,
First time on this board. Im from Snohomish County. I am a Fire Dispatcher, have been for the last 8 years. Put 10 years into Snohomish Co SAR ( now out) and have been a Vol Firefighter for 14 years. I have been Scanning for years, but dont know much about my equipment. Just decided to go ahead and see if it is time to upgrade now that they are ditching out two-tone pagers, and VHF dispatching is going to be gone in the next couple of months for Fire and LEO.
Going to have lots of questions on equipment, and how to program it. Maybe I can dispell some of the info I have seen on this board in the past about who is really being dispatched out of where, and what talkgroup they are really on.
Nice to see a place I can come and learn.

I'm still in Colorado trying to sell the house (pending), but was visiting my wife a couple weeks ago and listened to a Coast Guard rescue of a hypothermic patient aboard a ship somewhere in the ocean. I only had my Pro96 with a UHF antenna on it, so it was scratchy, but one of the more exciting things I've ever heard. Of course living in Colorado Springs for 35 years I never had a chance to hear things like this. Now I'm even more excited about moving to Mount Vernon

I live and work on the east side. Got a Pro-95 off craigslist when I bought something else (had always been thinking about getting a scanner) and then a Pro-97 on sale to compare. Both are quite comparable with their stock antennas, just that the Pro-97 has a few more features. I listen mostly to Police/Fire/WSP.
Most interesting ones were a "motorcycle hit deer" on Hwy 169, plenty of wierd domestic calls, and a group speed enforcement operation.
Has anyone been able to get WSP Aircraft operations on their scanner?

I live in Lynnwood and I'm a Lieutenant with SCFD # 7, I primarly listen to the Snohomish County TRS. I have what I consider to be one of the best handhelds I have ever owned, a Uniden BR-330T! I also listen on a Uniden BC-895XLT. Everything on the Snohomish County TRS comes in loud and clear in the Lynnwood area near James Villiage.
