Jeff,
For the Glen Jean site, I you you had mentioned an article about a proposed "Thurmond" tower a while back. The Thurmond site is 3-4 air miles NW of the newly built WVHHR tower in Glen Jean [the one that is in the FCC antenna registration database].
I added the coordinates for the Glen Jean tower based upon the FCC coordinates of the WVDHHR tower listed as constructed earlier this year.
Do you happen to know if that Thurmond tower ever got built? If so, I wonder if that's the site of the transmitters or if the transmitters are on the WVDHHR tower listed in the db.

Pendleton and Hardy
From my QTH north of Wardensville, I have good reception of the Moorefield site (and several others).
For the first time, I'm hearing some Hardy County units on SIRN. Earlier this week, the Sheriff's Office had a couple of units out. They seemed to have both SIRN and the current VHF system going and would use the new digital units unless they couldn't make reliable contact, in which case they would revert to VHF. All of that was in one day, apparently for a field test under operational conditions. Haven't heard them since.
This evening (November 29), I heard Hardy Fire run a quick test on TG1401. They made contact and then went off. Just a test.
I also heard Pendleton County Sheriff run a test yesterday but was not able to get the TG used. First transmission I've heard from Pendleton.

Been getting talkgroup 389 all morning, since I can't hear what's going on(yet)it's not in the database and the nearest one looks like maybe the morgantown area? I usually leave my scanner on just to see if a wildcard shows up. I know it's not much fun but at least I try.

Sorry about that, Bert. I'm easily confused Any idea if that Thurmond tower has been constructed?

Sorry I can not remember to much on it now. The one I referred to in the past was in Babcock State Park. When I seen the license on the site it was under VHF freq. but that was when SIRN was getting off the floor and only had a few towers.

Mike I made the trip earlier this evening but I didn't get a control channel from that group of freqs. I heard an active cc on 453.5125 but it was pretty weak. Believe that may be the Bolt Mtn Site which is already listed under Kopperston.

Pendleton uses SIRN at times. The State Police and DNR in the county uses it at times. EMS uses it every now and then along with one of the fire companies there.

While doing the tune thing it stopped on 450.98125 and this pops up intermittently:
VC: 1stTGRID - 14128 and maybe another number. Anyone know what this is about? nothing else shows up besides that.

Chad,
Another person who lives in Beaver area had told me that the site wasn't online yet. So you probably shouldn't waste any more time on it. Apparently there is a delay while they are waiting for something. You know how that goes, of course
He also confirmed for me the site neighbors of the Glen Jean site [so Jeff doesn't have to try to verify that any further via weak signal].
Thanks for checking it out though. I know if you didnt hear anything on those freqs, then it isn't online yet. You're a swell guy!

Bert,
I don't think so. But I believe they soon will. Word has it that the Beckley site is ready to go online as soon as the pending FCC application is granted.

I noticed that too Bert, I'm like Mike I'm sure they will come alive when the Site on Harper Rd goes live Not sure why they're not using it much now. Between the Flat Top & Mossy Sites they would have adequate county coverage.

Btw,What is the control channel frequency for the Beckley tower so I can be ready when it becomes active(might be moot since I'll probably get those talkgroups via Pax)???

Nobody knows yet. My guess would be one of these (off the current FCC license):
453.525
460.6375
Or one of these (on the pending FCC app):
452.1000
460.6875
461.6375
462.1125

Yeah, according to the FCC it should be the 1st 2. At 100 watts I should be able to hear that well all the way to work.
