How far down into the state will these cover? I'm looking to swing the corner of the state in towards Monongalia County as well.

Just put the whole system in with Sentinel. There's no good reason not to. Location Control will automatically lock out sites out of range. Get the GPS puck and connect it to the scanner, and let the scanner do its thing. It's a lot smoother in most cases than manually toggling things on and off. The extra sites don't slow the scanner down when they aren't being scanned.

Im not picking up anything from the northern panhandle. I live in wheeling. I've tried different antenna locations and antennas . At a loss. I've reprogrammed my scanner to no avail. I am using a b996xt.

Well you could use a beam or the radio-800mhz for a handheld but make sure also that the banks for fire and ems didn't get turned off but I have a 536 and a psr-800 and hear them perfect and downtown also

You're talking about 15-40 miles over hilly terrain. An indoor antenna is going to have difficulty getting that kind of reception. You're going to need an outdoor antenna with some elevation to get good reception.

Brooke and hancock are not on sirn at this time. there are no towers north of ohio county. There is possibility of one being built in beaver county pa to covers those two counties.

Weirton Area has a tower in place but hasn't been turned on for Brooke County.

From the SIRN newsletter:

Weirton Tower
  • No LOC’s are coming back to Hancock or Brooke Counties; no response from Pa. agencies on LOCs.
  • Lauttamus Communications has frequencies available.
  • Local law enforcement (i.e. Hancock and Brooke Counties) have P-25 radios that they cannot use. They are considering meeting with local Senators and Delegates to address the matter.
  • Frequencies were licensed for a simulcast site however there was concern of overloading the system.
  • Business frequencies from the former Weirton Steel are no longer available.
  • Beaver County tower; agreements in place and waiting on installation of equipment.
  • Hancock and Brooke County public safety agencies requesting to meet with the SWIC and Project Manager about the Weirton Tower.

I bought the ARC536 S/W and have been trying to learn that. When I change the location control from Circle to Rectangle it is missing the extra Lat Long fields. I'm really lost now. LOL I have been tinkering with Sentinel for the past three days and am starting to get a grip on it. I am trying to get my rectangles to keep a tight boundry on most counties so that I can avoid too much radio traffic while travelling. So I am now asking myself.... What does the ARC software do that Sentinel does NOT do?

Is all of Morgan County now on the system, including Paw Paw? Or are there still some conventional frequencies in regular use? I know I can't imagine Paw Paw's LTR still being on the air.

I monitor the Hampshire Co. Ridge site. I regularly hear FD, EMS and the sheriff's office but I can't answer if they use any analog freqs.

If you go to www.sirn.wv.gov and then click on Information --> Downloads and read one of the newsletters. somewhere in the newsletters they usually have some programming info.

Morgan County mostly uses SIRN. I've never heard much on their analog freqs that wasn't a simulcast of SIRN traffic.

Thanks Jon. Noticed that the last week. Been away for a while, but back in the area now.
