EDACS help

from what i understood i could scan edacs standart with a trunk tracker 3 scanner my bct15,and for apco25 i would need a digital scanner. But here in EPS talk groups i can scan evry one here that says mode A for analog but the ones thats say D for digital i cant scan wy not, its edacs standart not apco25?

the EDACS digital is not apco25 (or P25) it is ProVoice. it is a digital form that is not available for the Scanner companies. also bct15 doesn’t support apco25 a scanner that has trunk tracker 4 that has P25.

i am aware that a bct15 cannot scan apco25 i already new that ,i was not asking if my bct15 could scan apco25 ,i was asking wy there are digital channels in a edacs talk group ,basically i thought that anything that is not apco25 i could pick up with a trunk tracker 3,so theres no point in me getting a digital scanner if i cant pick up edacs digital?

If the only digital you have in your area is EDACS then you are right, there is not point to a digital scanner, unless you want to get "future proof" is case some APCO-25 does come to your area.

There are a million and one reasons why they pick any certain type of radion system. Politics, good sales pitch form the other guy, they may do studies with different types of radios and discover something else works better in their environment, they like the features available on the other radios, the current radios they have will work in a certain capacity with the new raidos and will allow a graduated transition.

Probably the best reason though is that if they really don't want to be heard, the APCO-25 capable radios can be encrypted if they so chose to spend the money on that option. They don't specfiically need to go to Pro-voice to talk in private. Much of the sensitve stuff is done on cell phones now too so they don't need something that is private neccessarily.

In Ottawa the EDACS Public Safety system had firefighters on it 7 years or more ago. I heard Pro-Voice on it then that I could not monitor. That is when I got my first trunk tracker. They could have been on it before then, and maybe in other places before that too but hat is the only example I can personally give you. If you really want to know try a post in the General scanning there should be a larger audience who are more knowledgeable than me.
