The wiki pulldown in the blue toolbar
One of the things that is new for 4.0 is the use of pulldowns - and more specifically, the one used for the wiki. This lists various articles and categories with many links.
A little definition is in order here - a category is nothing more than a logical grouping of wiki articles, by theme (which is how we do it here) or content. If you make a selection, and it says 'Category' at the top of the article, all you need do is to click on the title of the article you wish to read (this is emphasized in the writeup for each category, which is always found at the top).
Don't be disturbed that you might find the same article cataloged among several categories. This is perfectly normal, and encourages ease of finding the article you wish in the first place.
Hopefully the newcomers among us will find this style of 'quick linking' easier to use than trying to fish through the wiki's front page. It's very comprehensive, but understandably overwhelming for someone not familiar with the topics or how to navigate in this environment. 73 Mike

The pulldown is very handy, and it's placement in the center of the banner was a good choice as well.
All in all, it is presented in a much neater package now.

Yes, I agree the wiki pulldowns are cool, very quick and easy search. Now there is a wiki forum as well!

I am still working on Lindsay with this (he and I aren't agreeing on some things here...) but from time to time I'd like to be able to rotate those topics and change them. Perhaps expanding on one, collapsing another, replacing one here and there and so on. For example, I'd like to add links to UniTrunker and Pro96Com - the 2 most popular trunked radio decoders, and the 2 most often discussed and talked about in the decoders forum. Or perhaps add a link to the VHF/UHF skip article, since that's a topic that will get more attention as get closer to the spring/summer months.
Stay tuned 73 Mike

Couldn't those decoders be a sub-menu off the wiki software button, like the FAQs sub menu with the arrow.

i like the pull downs but i wish it was a mouse over command so you don't actually have to click to get the pulldown menu...

I think that's certainly possible, Ron. However, I think that it's enough of a different animal that it deserves its own topic on the pulldown. Most all the other 'software' topics have to do with programming, and while I agree that UniTrunker and Pro96Com can develop data that can be used for programming, they are not programming packages per se.
Nothing is written in stone here - the pulldown is going to stay the way it is for now, as Lindsay and the staff (myself included) will be very busy with testing/installing some additional upgrades along with a complete rewrite of the FreeScan user manual. But keep the ideas coming....73 Mike

That's a Lindsay question, I'm afraid. Post it in the appropriate place and see what he says.
