SPAM in Wiki

Please check your PMs for a message regarding SPAM found in the Wiki.

At your convenience, please clarify:

• The spam-reporting procedure you prefer wiki-users use,
• Whether wiki-users who find spammed pages should:
  • Either, undo/revert the spammed page to its previous-history state
  • Or, leave it untouched for your examination/response.

If I missed these answers in other posts, or in the wiki forum's stickies, I apologize.

QPD, I got your email and apparently my attempt to roll back the article using the browser on my smartphone was unsuccessful, so thanks to Bill for taking care of it. Yes, the spammer has now been blocked from editing the Wiki.

In the future, just send me a PM to let me know what's going on. Feel free to roll back the article, but let me know if you do.

Please check your PMs for two messages (one on May 24, one on June 6) listing three more possible SPAM Wiki articles. Since each appears to have been created as SPAM (instead of SPAMming a previously valid article), a roll-back option does not seem possible at this point.

Wow, that person who polluted the Wiki only joined at 5am this morning.

Looks like a gamer with a virus problem.

The user uploaded approx. 122 files in about an hour. It looks like the admins have about 1/3 of them deleted so far, and are still working on cleaning up the mess. I don't know what's involved procedurally to delete a single file, but after this incident, I'm guessing that the admins would appreciate having a script that would let them delete all files uploaded by a specific user during a specific date/time-range, instead of having to search-and-destroy files one at a time. Of course, having a delete-script like that could be a security nightmare if ever used wrongly.

Just a suggestion, looks like we should have as for new users with the five forum messages moderation and no pm's. If it can be added to not be able to edit wiki's as well, till then?

Otherwise its going to tie up all the wiki admins and it is like the ole dog/cat chasing their tails. Delete these, then another batch shows up, etc.

I had similar thoughts, too. I also wonder if the junk is coming from a single IP-address that could be blocked.

For the time being, all file uploading to the Wiki has been blocked until Lindsay and I figure out a more permanent solution.
