I think Wisconsin is in good shape with adding a VHF system since we have so many hills and us tax payers saved a ton of money on infrastructure costs since the state used the existing towers they already have in place. In the more populated sections of the state like in the following counties: Waukesha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Sheboygan which already use 800mhz and have the equipment and infrastructure to handle that then there is no reason for them to go to WISCOM and switch to VHF. They are talking about using ISSI so they can connect the systems to WISCOM.

Illinois: 800 MHz

Wisconsin: VHF

Interesting.
There is already inter-system linking in place between ARMER and WISCOM, and other methods/equipment are being put in place in certain areas.

Iron County DIspatch has MPSCS capability for communications with Gogebic County. The rest of the NE area also has ways to communicate across the border which have existed for a long time.

I'm not familiar enough with the Southern half to comment specifically, but overall it's only a technical issue. Remove the politicians and other politics and let the engineers and radio technicians work on it with input from the users and everything will be fine.

Default St. Croix & Pierce Counties

Only real activity from the counties has been on the scan talkgroups which is hit and miss. All radio systems are still analog with no intent to go WISCOM 100% or even digital conv. for that matter.

Some departments have a few agency talkgroups which are used on a very rare basis. You would have better luck listening to Dunn Co than anything else.

In addition that is why the scan talkgroups are active is for the Dunn Co switch over. A fair amount of users in the area obtained Kenwoods as part of the grant for the switch (or usage) of WISCOM. Thus, they need to have a scan talkgroup active for the counties not going on WISCOM.

I heard the St. Croix County law enforcement main patched to this talk group on 02/01/2013 in the afternoon. I was getting it as a wildcard hit so I have no idea what tower they were using ( I would assume Baldwin, but it was really choppy). I have no idea why they were testing it.

I was told that they are working on patching law channel 1 and fire 1 to the scan talkgroup and it is due to Dunn Co going to WISCOM.

I heard it has been a little spotty and yes I would assume that it is off the Baldwin tower. My radio pulls to Baldwin about 95% of the time and I hit the Prescott site when I am in the cities. The Baldwin tower has great coverage in western WI and I can even hit it on an average to Clear Lake/Clayton. (This is not using a preferred setting in the radio either.)

The state of Wisconsin, wants to add three more WISCOM transmitter sites in Douglas County. This is part of 15 more sites that are planned over the next two years. More information is available on the FCC Web site:

xx010 talkgroups are county scan gateways systemwide, not operational talkgroups for an agency. The techs in that area must be installing a new round of equipment as time allows.

I was wondering what was up with all those new sites in Douglas County. Is Douglas going to join Wiscom?

Best guess would be after the new sites are active.

Has anyone heard anything from Marathon, Wood county sites yet ? I have an impending tax return check and am wondering if it's even worth it to buy a P25 scanner, the only thing I know about them is that they'really spendy critters. If there's no traffic around here, I don't think I should even bother, but living in Marshfield I should be able to receive both counties. I can get their analog stuff, at least. Andy, can you give any input ?

Talkgroups 4 and 6 were active tonight. It sounded like it could've been some DOJ type traffic. Suspect descriptions and whatnot. First time I've heard any non WSP/Dodge County simulcast off the Deerfield tower!

Depending on the day there is quit a bit active on that tower. Mostly testing but I have herd DOJ, testing, and the occasional call on SCALL or one of the STACs.

For some reason DOJ is using STAC8 a lot for testing.

keep listening traffic will pick up over the next few months, as more get radios.

What you were hearing last night was DCI and Madison PD doing some some stuff together.

I've also heard DCI on their own talkgroups off and on lately.
