Like actually recording the audio...? Because this program Unitrunker hooked up to my Uniden Bcd396xt, is recording the data of what passes through the tower. I just cannot see the discriptions of any of the groups.

Yes like recording the audio.

This is where being in front of the scanner with actual traffic helps with identifing the talkgroup in realtime. Your only other alternative is to sit in front of it running the talkgroup scan feature and making mental notes or jotting down what your hearing to identify the talkgroup.

Short of having an offical WyoLink talkgroup template, thats how everyone figures out who is who.

I will say that people are pretty good at submitting the information to the database, so either its a really new talkgroup, or no one has sat down to figure out who the talkgroups belong to.

Here's a technique: If you only have one scanner, and therefore can only listen to the scanner or decode from the scanner but not both at the same time, do this: Program a control channel into a bank all by itself, then scan that bank only. Now activate the decoder program. It will decode while no one is talking, and when someone talks, the decoding will stop, but you will be able to hear the radio traffic from the scanner. This would be useful to determine talkgroup usage. - Tom

What happened to the Wyolink site? It disappeared Saturday and is still gone this morning.

Totally lost trying to set up a Pro 197 scanner (I'm sure no one has heard that before). Willing to pay someone in Cheyenne or Fort Collins area who is a lot smarter than me. Thanks in advance.

LOL, they can be a battle if you aren't used to them.

I don't know of anybody who could help you down there. I am in Casper, but would be happy to help if you were ever up here.

What problems are you having? We may be able to help from afar.

Thumbs up

Are you trying to program your Pro 197 manually or are you using some software?
Would definately recommend software, you can download and try each on a 30 day trial.
I use Win500 for my GRE PSR 500, but there are several others available.
Check this out, scroll down to "software".

As of this week, it seems that Sheridan has gone completely to WYOLINK. My parents have had the same analog scanner forever, What do they need to have now to pick up the various departments? They are lost without their scanner working. What is the best kind of scanner and how hard will it be to program it?

The only agencies (for now) that are on WyoLink are the sheriff and PD.

Any of the digital trunking scanners will work. RadioShack pro-106, Pro-197 or the Uniden BCD-996xt or 396xt.

Those are fairly standard. But there are tons more available. The difficulty programming varies by model and how well you understand trunking.

Go w/Uniden, as GRE's are getting rid of their stock. Google -FreeScan, BcTool, or Proscan, they are all great online programming.

What about homepatrol scanners? They looked fairly easy to program?

I've never used the home patrol. You could try it. It's probably easier to set up than the other digital scanners.

The TG's should be in the range of 13300 to 13499 for Sheridan county.

Those with digital scanners in the general county/area, please place them into ID/TG search mode and see what you can come up with.

Traffic has the potentinal to be heard from adjacent counties

Steve
The two talkgroups that I found while listening are 13307(Sheridan SO) & 13311 (Sheridan PD).

(If an Admin finds this info would you please add the two talkgroups to the Wyolink Datebase for Sheridan County, WY. Thanks in advance)
