Yes, that is to be expected. It is a more capable replacement for the R8500, and the R8500 sold for about $2200 - 2400 when first introduced. When the R8500 was discontinued last year it was stills selling for in the $1400 - 1800 region. Today a high quality mint used one might bring over $1000, for a used radio.
