I was checking today's Mode-S / ADS-B logs and notice some rather strange callsigns from SkyWest Airlines. I have posted a few snippets from the log file below.

A20415 MATTSUXX N229SW E120 Skywest Airlines/... 2011/07/11 17:57:04
A2F71F BUTTSEXX N290SW E120 Skywest Airlines/... 2011/07/11 01:27:28
A2FE8D MATSUUXX N292SW E120 Skywest Airlines/... 2011/07/11 03:29:55
A31120 MATTSUXX N297SW E120 United Express (S... 2011/07/11 16:39:11

Searching previous records on these aircraft indicate this has been happening for some time. The call signs have also been changed on occasion and were mostly "x rated" in nature.

These were received on my Radarbox located in Moreno Valley, CA

GABLESEN is a default ID. Gables Engineering Inc.

ALLIED is also a default. Allied Signal is a manufacturer of transponders.

I've logged all sorts of 'custom' IDs. The 13 Sky West planes I have logged never show any ID.

This shouldn't be a surprise after the stuck mike incident with the SW pilots. Wonder what upper management would have to say?

Keep postin' em guys,,,

I didn't record the hex ID, but I saw N32MJ as MAGIC32 (Magic Johnson).

I also saw a plane that appeared to be registered to Continental sending BUFFETT (Warren?).

Just goes to show how much the regional pilots really hate their jobs. I guess you gotta have some fun sometimes or else go insane.

Hit this nail square on the head....I would rather my son grow up to dig ditches than see him work in this industry, especially at the regional level.
