I haven't seen anything posted about this. Rolls Royce apparently monitors each of its engines in flight in real time. Anyone had any luck finding where this data is transmitted? Is it a packet in the ADSB transmissions? Satellite?

Thanks McKenna. Is Inmarsat geosynchronous? Anyone have luck intercepting? Is it a lost cause?

Geosynchronous: https://www.inmarsat.com/about-us/our-satellites/

Inmarsat handles a lot of phone calls, data, etc. Pretty sure it's encrypted well. You would't be able to get the uplink, unless you were really close to the aircraft. Downlink is coming from above, but not sure you could do anything useful with it. It's not a FM analog signal. It's going to be something wide band.

P&W monitor their ATR72 engines on a daily basis - the data is stored in one of the engine computers, then at night or a longish stopover at base it is downloaded to a USB stick and then taken back to the avionics shop where it gets sent back to P&W in Montreal.

Not many aircraft companies these days actually own the engines, they are leased and charged out when the engines are running - it's often called 'power-by-the-hour'. The owner of the engines is, of course, wanting to make sure that the user is taking care of his property, so he collects the performance data too. There are maintenance procedures that have to be carried out on an 'hours-in-service' basis and these checks get captured by the engine run computers too.

The PP network has been monitoring the downlinks from a/c using JAERO for nearly two years now.
Air to ground transmissions are in C Band .. We use the location data to plot Oceanic traffic , the image shows a two day timelapse of coverage.

Engine data will probably be contained in one of the many types of messages downlinked which are not currently decoded by JAERO.
If anyone has a sample of current engine data format. by all means drop me a line.

On the network we have up to seventeen dishes in operation at any one time enabling us to plot up to 60,000 position reports a day from all seven satellites.

KGAcars catches (engine data)

Back in the day all we had was the codes you had to decipher like aviation weather.
Is this what you are looking for? I had to resize the pic from 2.8 meg to the microscopic file size allowed to post.
Just normal ACARS message in plain text, so we might get a snapshot but real time stream data is probably not in our balliwick.

Many thank Ind224
I think the regular engine goes via one of the channels we don't decode.
Having said that , we do see occasional engine info as below....
