Default Aviation scanning question

I was wondering what is the most effective way to get the most out of aviation scanning with certain scanner setup i.e

Bank 1 or quick key 1 Towers
Bank 2 or quick key 2 Tracon
Bank 3 or quick key 3 ZLA ARTCC
Bank 4 or quick key 4 Air to Air
Bank 5 or quick key 5 Airline company

There is no need for all that segmentation. All you are doing is using up 5 banks that could be all put in 1-2 banks.

This is assuming you at least have a scanner that can do 100 channels/second.

your biggest improvement would be an exterior antenna and low loss coax and dont use so many banks...take time to listen to the most active freq.

I have been monitoring aviation for years and I have a similar setup. I live near the world's busiest airport, so there are many active frequencies. I find if I just scan "everything" then the scanner stops and stays on Approach or Atlanta Center because they are so busy. I find making banks of certain types of air band frequencies helps. This way I can fine tune what I want to listen to.

Here is my setup:

0 - Mil-Air
1 - Approach/Departure
2 - Ground Ops, ATIS
3 - Towers
4 - Airport ground ops.. catering, shuttles etc.
5 - Maintenance, Airinc, Dispatchers, FBO's,
6 - Distant Center and Approach freq's
7 - General Aviation, unicoms
8 - ATL Center

Day to day scanning I will monitor banks 2, 3, 5, and 7. When weather is in the area I will listen to approach and center to listen for the holding patterns, diversions and the always fun "going around".

Default I use multiple banks too :)

I second SkiBob's post. I have been monitoring Civilian and MilAir for many years. It's my favorite monitoring. I always use separate banks. I have separate banks for the following:

Colorado Springs Airport
Butts Army field
Air Force Academy field
Denver Center
Denver International Airport
etc, etc....
