I have an Optoelectronics xplorer that needs a new Li-Ion battery. This is not the large NiCad battery that runs the unit. It is the button cell battery that maintains the clock which is needed if you want your scanner hits to record a date. The battery looks as if it is soldered in but I wonder if anyone has done this replacement and could give me some advice.

More than likely it a CR2032 coin cell, solder tabs. You can order them through any electronics distributor, Mouser is good. When you have the replacement, observing polarity, cut the old one out and solder directly to the tabs. Appropriately insulate and position for fit when the case is reinstalled.
