I got this radio as bargain too good not to grab, and have set it up as my first "base station", I also got a mag foot with a Nagoya s80 VHF/UHF antenna, now our clubs repeater is on uhf and my swr is as good as 1. Then I started looking into APRS wich here is on 144.800, thought nothing of it until I glanced at my swr meter when sending a beacon, swr off the scope, both needles whent high and I stopped the beacon and let the radio settle for a minute (I just thought something got got and gave it time to cool).
The antenna does not have a ground plane more then the foot, can this be the cause of the high swr on vhf?
Any other tips?
