Looking to construct a 6m dipole, is there any advantage to using larger diameter materials, 1/2 copper pipe vs # 14 wire?

Looking for electrical considerations more than the mechanical aspects.

Thanks

Theory is antenna element diameter effects tuned antenna bandwidth. In practice the change is very small and of little practical advantage.

I have used 1/2 inch copper pipe with a CPVC tee as the center insulator. I just use two machine screws to make a connection to the pipes from coax. I have found I get a bit more bandwidth with the pipe. If you use another chunk of PVC as a 'mast' a dipole made from pipe is rotatable. I turn mine by hand and then tighten the clamps back down. Changing the direction allows you to point the antenna every once in a while which may get you a few more grid squares -or point at the magnetic pole for aurora.

6 is a fun band.

It explains why wrapping rabbit ears with tinfoil yields a better picture!
