APRS vs ARTS

My pretty little Yeasu FT-8900 comes with Auto Range Transponder System (ARTS) is this the same thing as Automatic Position Reporting System (APRS)? To me, it sounds like the two systems are the exact same thing.

No. ARTS has absolutely nothing to do with APRS and is not similar in any way. It doesn't send location data. All it does is poll another radio periodically and if it doesn't receive a response it shows "out of range".
