I'm not that familiar with the VX-3, but I bought a used VX-5 (Tri bander) for my first HT. I'm very happy with it. Its a lot smaller then I was expecting.

Hey, AK4GA. 3rd radio. I have an Icom 2200 in the minivan, and a Yaesu FT-270 HT. I live in a rural area, but commute about 30 mins daily to a nearby city.

I have 2 of them. Great for scanning. Use a pc to program. Aftermarket batteries are very inexpensive. Good luck
