I just got a Kenwood TH – F6A and I am not able to receive local radio stations on a.m. or FM. When I go to AM or FM for local radio stations the frequencies don’t match up with what a standard a.m. radio station or FM radio station is. Any help would be appreciated.

Can you explain what you mean? For example, if you have a local AM broadcaster on 840 kHz and you tune the radio to that frequency, what do you hear? If you have to tune off of 840 to get a clear signal, how far off channel are you?

For example when I am on the WFM band and I want to tune in to say 101.9 FM my frequency range in the radio goes from 50.000 to 53.990. For AM it goes from 174.000 to 215.950 and then starts over again at 174.000. Thank you for your help. I hope this helps.

FM broadcast should be 100kHz spacing by default. While you're in the WFM band, press <F> and then the <0> (STEP/FINE) button. Set it to 100kHz if it's not already there. Same goes for AM broadcast, which should be 10 kHz.

If it still seems messed up, have you tried a CPU reset? It's Menu #31. Before you do, be forewarned you'll lose all of your saved memory channels.

Good luck with your F6! I love mine.

Make sure you are using the B band (the lower band in the display). Press the A/B button to select the band. Once on the B band, each time you press the BAND button, the radio should select the next band. The band are described on page 33 in the manual.

If that doesn't seem to work, do the full reset as Chris describes.

I am in the B band the lower one. When I purchased the unit used a few weeks ago I did a menu 31 full reset. The AM step was at five so I just changed it to 10 and the FM step was at 25 so I just changed it to 100. It’s still does the same thing. WFM goes from 50.000 to 53.900. If I keep turning the knob it changes from WFM to FM and starts over at 29.700 to 49.900 and then will automatically change to WFM when it reaches 50.000 again. I am on AM, when I reach 215.950 starts over at 174.000.
Any other advice would be appreciated. Thanks. K9PIX

W(BU hit the nail on the head. Per the kenwood specs:
MainA-band(TX/RX) 144MHz:144 – 148 / 137 – 174MHz, 220MHz:222 – 225 / 216 – 260MHz, 440MHz:430 – 450 / 410– 470MHz

SubB-band RX: 0.1 ~ 1300MHz*1

I did a full CPU reset, again, and now I can get my FM and a.m. local radio stations. Thanks everybody for all your help. Much appreciated. I’m really looking forward to doing more with this radio. Any tips or tricks that you would like to share about this radio would be appreciated. 73 Neil K9PIX
