To tell you the truth, I never hear anything up here in PA on them. I think it is like channel 9 on the CB. Most hams have cell phones or autopatch or repeaters when they need assistance.
So, with that said, I think of the two. the 6.52 would be the one you might hear the calls on. I heard people talk about that one...never about the other one.

Invalid poll. The two frequencies listed are for 2 different modes. 146.520 is the 2 meter FM simplex calling frequency. !44.200 is the 2 meter SSB (USB) simplex calling frequency.

They are Both simplex frequencies. 652 is for FM and the other is for Upper Side Band.

The biggest issue here is what mode your using, as some already mentioned 146.520 is FM Simplex and Calling, 144.200 is SSB Calling.

If your into weak signal and SSB then .200 is just as important as .520. I have .520 in both mobiles and in scan, along with .550 as the alternate. I hear a fair amount of traffic on there when traveling, its still plenty popular.

Of course i monitor .200 as well since i work SSB quite often as well.

Both frequencies are simplex. It's just that 144.2 is the SSB calling frequency and 146.52 is the national FM simplex calling frequency. If you are on the road and have a SSB rig, plunk it down on 144.2, if only an FM rig, try 146.52. But you won't hear much, most people who may be traveling together in different vehicles will have their own "private" frequency, I know I do when on the road. Some people just operate on the various repeaters they come across. Out in the San Francisco area 146.52 is a popular frequency, there are a bunch of guys using it at night.

On 2m by the bandplan there is two ranges of Simplex commonly used to avoid interfering with anything else...

146.400-146.595

147.405-147.585

Around here the most popular spots are...

146.520
146.550
146.580

Its always been a gentlemans agreement, at least around here, to stay 30khz apart to avoid interfering with each other. Basically if one frequency is busy just move up. Of course with modern radios that's a bit dated being that far apart, but its always been that way.

In the upper range i know one crowd that chats on 147.520 or 147.550 every morning.
