renewal of amatuer radio license

What are the steps to renew. My expiration date is 7-2013. Can you do this online at the ULS site or is there some procedure. Do you wait till it gets closer to the expiration date or can you renew before then.

You can renew it on the ULS web site http://wireless.fcc.gov/uls wiithin 90 days of the expiration date.

If your ticket does expire, you still have 2 years to renew before you must retake the test.

As others indicate, you can do it at no charge (there will be a surcharge for vanity calls however) using the ULS system. You can also have one of the various VE organizations handle the renewal for you, but often there's a charge for them handling it for you. Expect your mailbox to start filling up with offers from them to handle it for you.
