Vibroplex, a well-known CW key company, has set up a GoFundMe page to help raise the funds to once again have the capability to produce embossed nameplates. The previous owner took the dies so they must be made again which is cost prohibitive to the new owner. The page can be found at:

They only need $5,000 so this should be easily obtainable from within the Amateur Radio community of CW enthusiasts.

Sounds like there was some lack of legal work done on the transfer of ownership.

Let the new owner go after the old owner for taking the die in the first place. It shouldn't be up to the ham community to bail the new owner out for his lack of legal understanding. Shame on him for not taking the legal step that should have been taken from day one.

Have you heard about people being dumb? This is a case of being dumber.

That first sentence is assuming an awful lot which is the basis for the remainder of your post. Let's not be presumptive...

Yep, this is a good example. Evidently you didn't take the time to learn the actual circumstances, which are clearly set out in the GoFundMe description:
...the company that had possession of the stamping die ceased business, taking the die with them.
Just how was the new owner supposed to obtain the die from a now defunct business?

The previous owner of Vibroplex had contracted out the work to a third-party company. Had he not suffered whatever accident that caused him to sell the business, he'd have faced the exact same problem as the new owner!

Interesting subject - name plates. I have purchased a number of Vibroplex products over many years. The current product is a poor excuse for earlier quality, so I would personally like to see the effort placed into improving production quality instead of making embossed plates. This is a niche product. Plus, there are many used Vibroplex keys for sale due to lack of interest in the code. That is unfortunately the case.

You obviously haven’t been paying attention. Interest in code is on the upswing. It gotten a big boost due to the QRP crowd.

What good would it have done for him anyway?
The business isn't in the same city and state which the 'old' die stamped into the plate.
At least Scott did bring this company back into the ham world unlike another company in Ohio that has yet to do much of anything with an old and trustworthy name of a ham radio company.
