Default TETRA

AOR have not released any serial commands for TETRA.

So I cannot incorporate it into eSPYonARD yet.

I have had the new button on the program's interface for a few weeks, so hopefully as soon as they do put out the codes I can add the function.

I was a BETA tester for the trial TETRA firmware, and at that time was told AOR had not even written any external commands for it, so how long that takes is beyond my control.

Will keep everyone updated.

Hello
myself also being a first BETA tester for over a month and i was not allowed to talk about that to anyone
But now its official released, we free to change information
Over the test period and until today i was not able to test any DMO channels, because there where none.
The first 2x BETA did some garbling voices on TMO channel and actually this final version, give none sound on TMO

Overhere we have very high traffic over 100++ users in TMO
Curious what version you got from AOR in the BETA stage ?

BTW, iam not using your wonderfull software.

Default More on Tetra

AOR released an official firmware upgrade today, with DMO Tetra.

I have not installed it yet. I will probably not do so for a couple of days and wait and see if anyone reports any major problems. I cannot run the risk of my AR-DV1 getting 'bricked'.

Very busy at the moment with Whistler 'Q', and trying to catch up on 10 months of things that have built up whilst developing and adding new features to eSPYonARD, 7/7 with only 4 days off in all that time.

I did get the buttons ready though, for Tetra, which was more complicated than it sounds, including keeping that version up to date, ready for the final release.

Like you I did not disclose anything during BETA testing.

I was not much help. I could find no DMO Tetra signals during the BETA testing.

I now have at least some of the serial codes I need, but AOR have said they will send me all the details soon, which is another reason to wait till that happens. I want the version with Tetra to be right first time..

Sorry to hear you are not using the software. I have followed some of your posts and wondered, as you sound like someone who would appreciate it, and might make a great BETA tester for me, especially as there are lots of Tetra signals in your area, even if most are TMO.

Interesting that AOR are hinting that they are working on TMO too.

That means you have not tried the 'Q' and 'Q-DB' functions in eSPYonARD, which I reckon take the AR-DV1 to a new level on their own. In many ways a much bigger leap forward than adding Tetra.

Those who have reported back to me, and there are now quite a few, all agree, which is good and makes the hard work worthwhile. It is not often anyone manages to create something that is revolutionary and simple to use, lol.

I imagine there are still a lot of people who read the claims for 'Q' and 'Q-DB' who feel they must be way over the top, if not impossible. I understand that, but luckily there are lots of users who can prove they do work not only a stated, but have found new uses for them too. Some have posted about it here, and others left recommendations on my YouTube page, and Web-Site.

Email me about joining the BETA team if you want to. There is an email button on the espyonard.com page.

Cheers

Default eSPYonARD - Adding TETRA

In the light of the last but one Firmware release having to be withdrawn, and already a few potential problems with the Tetra upgrade appearing, I have decided NOT release a new version of eSPYonARD with a DMO Tetra button until it appears AOR have the firmware right.

This will not effect anyone who has installed the new firmware, because as you know you can temporarily turn off serial control in eSPYonARD and use the radio manually to access TETRA, by right clicking on the Tuning knob in the program.

On balance I am sure this is the right decision. Rest assured, as soon as it looks as if the Tetra upgrade (in its final form) is working correctly I will release an updated program which will include the new Mode,

Cheers

Default The Truth

Someone has posted this in another thread:-

"eSPYonARD is not better as the Owner if focussing on Q without any considérations about the basic features such as Memory scans and basic searchs.
eSPYonARD owner doesn't want to consider basic features...."

I do not know the motivation behind these remarks, but they are at best misleading, and simply not true. Perhaps they may be based on the French translation of the program's instructions, over which I have no control. T

I am not going to post in that thread, and do not intend to get involved, however the truth is:-

eSPYonARD covers virtually ALL the basic features of controlling the AR-DV1, as users will know. It always has.

It also adds many extra features not available without the program.

Memory Scans and Searches as implemented by AOR have ALWAYS been included, since the earliest versions of the program. Each function has always had their own buttons, and work.

'Q' - the latest feature is an additional function and only a few weeks old, one of the many I have provided.

It does provide an easier way to store unlimited 'Q' memories, and scan them, but those are only two of the many extra things it adds to controlling the AR-DV1, and importing frequency lists from the Web and other sources.

The 'Q' functions NEVER replaced the Memory Scan and Search functions possible under serial communication on the radio, when using eSPYonARD. They are still there, fully implemented, and functioning as they always did.

You do not have to take my word for the above. Even not considering the many positive posts about the program, and the recommendations by customers, you can as ever use the Try Before You Buy version at the web-site and see for yourself

Default TETRA

Following the release of the latest firmware today (1610B) I have started to add Tetra DMO.

First release going out to BETA testers this evening.

Not quite as easy as it may sound, as adding a new mode is not just a matter of one extra button (that part is done and working).

Adding a new mode means a lot of other functions need updating too, which is more complicated. I would estimate it is 95% finished, but that last 5% may take a day or two.

Hopefully the new version '007' (coincidence but chimes with 'Q' functions nicely), should be uploaded to the Web Site very soon.

I will of course post here when that happens

You will see I have also added a Tetra -TMO button, in anticipation of AOR releasing that. For the time being it does not do anything.

Default 007 - TETRA ENABLED - 1000+ 'Q' Tetra frequency list included

I uploaded 007 to the web-site this morning.

ardv1

During the setup, a new sub folder is created with over one thousand likely Tetra frequencies included.

That means you can almost instantly monitor or scan any of them using 'Q' without tying up the radio's actual memories, or programming any in by hand.

Of course I cannot guarantee which, if any, frequencies are operating in your vicinity, or if the AR-DV1 can decode them.

If you are lucky enough to have working Tetra frequencies where you live then PLEASE add details here and I will include them in the next update.

With 'Q' you can very quickly edit, amend, or create your own Tetra /other lists, or import them from almost anywhere.

If the above does not convince you of how powerful, and what a leap forward the 'Q' functions are, then nothing will. Of course you could just try them and find out for yourself.

Default Download again please

If anyone downloaded the new version in the last 12 hours, please download and run the setup again.

It appears there was a minor corruption with the original. It probably appeared to run correctly, but I detected something wrong so uploaded it again.

The new 'Q' Tetra frequency sub directory is in ARDV1_CAT\QUICK LIST\QDB\TETRA FREQUENCIES

Open 'Q', click the DB Button and navigate there.

Default 1610b - anomaly - fix

I felt necessary to upload an amended version of eSPYonARD today VI (6.0006-007A)

I have discovered another anomaly with Firmware 1610B. It is not serious, but needs describing.

Sometimes (not always) when you initially start a search the AR-DV1 switches to 'DMR' mode. I have built in some code to detect if it is the anomaly, and eSPYonARD corrects it within a couple of seconds automatically.

There is no evidence to suggest it is something relating directly to eSPYonARD, but may only happen under software control.

Testing previous versions of eSPYonARD give the same intermittent result in 1601B, which is almost conclusive proof that this is firmware related.

At best it is only a momentary minor inconvenience, and the program rectifies it.

Default 1610B - MORE

Please refer to
http://forums.radioreference.com/aor...10b-issue.html

Because of these firmware issues I have released v.60006-007B this evening.

I have tried to apply workarounds for two of the new anomalies.

I am certain these are related to the new firmware.

Obviously I have not been able to apply weeks of testing, but realising a lot of you will want to try Tetra, and consequently firmware 1610B, I have done what I can to assist.

I cannot guarantee the workarounds will always work, as the anomalies as yet seem intermittent.

Default 1610B AGAIN

Another update.

I am still finding a few little things that are related to the AR-DV1 misbehaving after anyone engages the Tetra (DMO) mode.

I have found that for the time being, the radio can be forced back to 'good' behaviour simply by closing and re-running eSPYonARD. When the program first runs it resets a lot of base values, and that seems to do the trick.

Much easier than having to manually do any form of reset on the radio itself

Default 1610B - What you should know

Please take time to read the thread below:-

http://forums.radioreference.com/aor...10b-issue.html

Obviously I do not want to post the same things in different places.

As I realise many of you will want to have access to the new TETRA DMO mode, just to try it, and that is only possible via the 1610B firmware update at the moment, I am doing LOTS of work to include some fixes for you.

Obviously they will only 'kick-in' when using the program.

Although some of you will know I have incorporated other fixes that cured some previous Firmware bugs (that still exist unless you use eSPYonARD), this one is very complicated.

Bit by bit I am tracking the new ones down.

I already released 3 versions of V.60006-007 in days.

This time, I will wait for a very short period to release an update.

eSPYonARD still works, but the Mode problem when switching to VFOZ in manual or under software control can have a lot of side-effects with 1610B firmware, and is intermittent ... quite a nightmare.

These side effects will occur under totally manual control too.

Today I wrote another work-around that does its best to fix this Mode bug as a temporary measure until AOR fix the issue.

Check the Web-Site frequently for any updates past v.6.0006-007C, and of course the Manual will detail what I have managed to achieve each time.

In the meantime, please let me know of any problems you are having since upgrading to 1610B, ideally on the thread at the top of this post, or by visiting espyonard.com and emailing me.

Please do not post them on this thread so it remains uncluttered.

Cheers

Default V.60006-007C

I just uploaded 007C to

ardv1

This contains workarounds for the intermittent problems re. Modes and IF Bandwidths occurring in MANUAL and software controlled situations, since firmware 1610B, and confirmed by other people.

The fact they happen when the AR-DV1 is not connected to a P.C.shows they are firmware related.

No other firmware problems I can correct by software have been reported to me.

Obviously anything 'strange' introduced by firmware is beyond my control. I cannot guarantee I have found everything.

However the current things I know of are being fixed in the background by eSPYonARD as and when they happen.

My 'fixes' should deal with those things I am aware of, and should not interfere as and when AOR issue the next update, which will hopefully correct the current issues.

Default v.6.0006-007D

The above new version has been uploaded to

ardv1

As always the Changes Log in the Manual sets out the details.

I have managed to tweak the 'fixes' I included regarding the intermittent anomalies thrown up in Firmware 1610B.

There are also some minor cosmetic changes, just relating to the SETUP, and RESET screens.

In case any of you are still not aware, by right clicking the 'CLOSE' button, the program does a partial reset of the AR-DV1 and eSPYonARD. Hopefully you will not need to use this very often, but it can be useful, especially if the AR-DV1 has one of its occasional, minor nervous breakdowns.

I have also managed a workaround for one 'annoyance'. As mentioned in the manual, if the radio is in SEARCH or SCAN the Firmware listens for Serial commands much less frequently. It is one way AOR adopted to increase the Search and Scan speeds. This did mean that if the radio was searching or scanning when eSPYonARD was started, the program often received no acknowledgement that the radio was connected, and asked users to input the Com Port manually.

If before starting eSPYonARD you have set the radio to perform a search or scan, pressing the VFO button on the radio before running the program will prevent the Com Port request.

However, if you usually use eSPYonARD most of the time, even if you have a search or scan running, when you use the 'CLOSE' button to exit the program, the radio is told to revert to VFO mode, so the problem is avoided.

Just a reminder, eSPYonARD always resets the AR-DV1 clock to the computer's time when it is started, so for those of you in areas where the clocks have changed, the program will make the necessary changes automatically, providing your P.C. is set to the correct time.

Default Advanced News

Just before the first TETRA firmware was released, I had started a re-write regarding the AR-DV1's Memory Channel manipulation.

I wanted to make it much easier to change things, and find a way to 'force' the radio to add changes to the Memories automatically just by selecting an individual button on the Main window, Frequency, modes, different squelches, noise reduction and bandwidth settings etc, but still in real-time so Users could hear the results. All with a single mouse click.

Sounds quite easy when you say it quickly, but it was not. The radio is not designed to allow those things under serial control.

I shelved the project, and had to first concentrate on adding Tetra, then fixes re the firmware.

I went back to it a few days ago.

Soon there will be new functions re Memory Channels.

The new functions are not complicated, quite the opposite. The coding is complex, but the operation should make Memory Channel manipulation much easier, and still in real-time so Users can actually hear their effect as changes are made.

The original methods are still available, for those used to them.

The BETA has gone out to be tested.

I realise there have been several updates in the last few weeks, but they were necessary to introduce workarounds regarding firmware 1610B.

It has been over a year since I started this project. Lots of updates since then, but only 3 were directly related to bug fixes, all the others added new functions.

Unless any Gremlins surface, this will probably be the last update for a bit, probably until AOR release a new mode.

Anyone who has the program, or has not updated it for some time really should install v.6.0007-001 when it is posted.

No I have not lost interest. I will still provide 7/7 support. It is just that, especially since the 'Q' additions, and this latest update, the program is about as comprehensive as it can be. It really does raise using the AR-DV1 to previously unimaginable heights.

The 'Trial' is free as always.

Check the web-site for v.6.0007-001. It should be released within a few days.

Default Quick update re new addition

I took a decision some months ago not to include the Backing up and Restoring of data re. the SD Card on the AR-DV1, despite there being Serial codes that allowed this.

Quite a few people have asked me if it could be included, so I reviewed that decision a couple of days ago, and decided I would add those functions to eSPYonARD.

This does mean that the release of v.6.0007-001 will be delayed for a short time.

As Users will know the program covers virtually all the functions that serial communications allow, plus many extra ones that are not possible without the software.

I am pleased to say that Backup and Restore are working via the program, however I would ALWAYS recommend Users make regular backups of their SD Card direct to their computer. Memory Cards do not last forever.

With regular backups you can be sure you never have to reprogram all the radio's Memory Channels, as it is a simple matter to copy the data onto a new SD Card, should you ever need to, although the new 'Q' in eSPYonARD already provides unlimited memory type functions from P.C. retained files.

Using the new version, when released, eSPYonARD can backup / restore the AR-DV1's Memories, Search details, and System parameters with a few mouse clicks straight to/from the SD Card.

I will post here when the latest version is available.

Default v.6.0007-001

I uploaded the above new version to the Site this evening.

ardv1

There are a few things, all documented in the Changes Log.

1. Added new options re. Memory Channel creation / amendment.

The original method is still operational as it was, for those used to it.

Many of the parameters which can be applied to a Memory Channel are now automatically saved when selected in the Main window,.

2. Added SD CARD backup and restore.

3. The program now remembers the last Search / Memory Bank used.

NOTE
The hosting site has, for some unknown reason, started to add some characters/numbers to the beginning of the setup file.

This WILL most probably trigger a Firewall and/or Anti-Virus alert.

I have submitted this to AVAST, and after testing it at their end it comes back as 'clean'. By all means do the same if asked to do so.

I always run the program through Avast, my Firewall and Malware Bytes before uploading a new version, as I did this time, just to be on the safe side. As usual it is shown as clean by all of them

I have also made the hosting Company aware, so hopefully they will put this right soon.

It is 12 months since I started writing the program. In that time I have added so many functions, quite a few that the radio is not capable of on its own, that I guess eSPYonARD has changed a lot.

Of course the revolutionary change came recently, with the 'Q' functions, which not only are a giant step forward in scanning software, but also a big leap for the AR-DV1. I will not repeat all that 'Q' can do, you can read about it at the Site, and the user recommendations, that prove the claims are not impossible, just plain fact.

Given that, if there are people out there who tried eSPYonARD months ago, then you really should consider installing this latest version and finding out for yourself.

Cheers
