The published specs for the AOR DV1's NXDN reception is that it only operates on signals of 6.25 KHz width. On my recently acquired Icom R8600, NXDN is presented in narrow (6.25) and very narrow (3.125) modes.

All NXDN signals I receive on the AOR at the alleged 6.25 width can only be received on the Icom 8600 in the very narrow 3.125 mode and not on the narrow 6.25 mode.

Does anyone else have this experience or insight into the discrepancy? Thanks in advance for your input.

NXDN signals come in two speeds/bandwidths:

4800 bps; carrier occupies 4 kHz of RF spectrum; is centered in a 6.25 kHz wide RF channel; 2.25 kHz guard band between adjacent carriers; some users place two carriers in legacy 15 kHz channel allocations, which increases the guard band to 3.5 kHz

9600 bps; carrier occupies 8 kHz of RF spectrum; is centered in a 12.5 kHz wide RF channel; 4.5 kHz guard band between adjacent carriers

NXDN signals are generally described by using their bit rate or channel width, so NXDN4800 vs NDXDN9600 or 6.25 kHz vs 12.5 kHz.

ICOM's nomenclature is closer to the RF carrier width or perhaps refers to the bandpass filtering used when receiving each signal type. It seems to be an odd way to identify the two signal types.

I, too, own both radios and had the same question. If I understand it correctly, the DV-1 only decodes 4800, while the R30 decodes both 4800 and 9600 (NXDN-VN, NXDN-N). I was very disappointed re: this issue because I hadn’t done my homework and thought the DV-1 did both as well.
