the techs were working on the system for a few days after the last snow / actually tried to get to Mt. Francis in the snowstorm but couldn't make it up in the 2 feet of snow up there

were 3 of them at times between mt. francis and mingus with installs and then a receive problem on mt.francis

another one to add
860.7875 site 2525
i'll run unitrunker later today and see what these 2 sites have to offer

there was an automated message on the old moto 2 system today as of saying something of the channel closing and if you think it shouldn't to call a number

i'll try to get the whole message next time it plays on the system

I caught it just now too, something about "in an effort to recover unused-resources on the radio this channel is being shut off, if you feel you need it call the number etc" or something to that effect.

Sounds like they are trimming down their channels to move them to the new system and don't want too many talkgroups on the air, less talkgroups, less channels, more frequencies to move to the new system.

I know that it would take a bit of work but has anyone pulled up the FCC licenses looking for new frequencies for this new system? I know a while back the weekly grant email mentioned some new channels for them but I can't find it to save my life. Wondering if there is anything out there that would be a result of this new setup.

Wondering if there is anything out there that would be a result of this new setup.

Correlating frequencies for the new system via the FCC licenses will be a little more tricky than a lot of the new systems as they are reusing frequencies from the old system on the new system. They also don’t appear to be very accurate on their frequency licensing. Take a look at the reported new control channel frequencies for the Mingus site:

855.6375 – Not licensed to Mingus Mtn.
857.4125 – Was used by old system Mingus Mtn site.
860.3875 – Not licensed to Mingus Mtn. Not even licensed to APS!
860.8125 – Not Licensed to Mingus Mtn. Not even licensed to APS!

Many of the licenses were updated March 1, 2017. The link below consolidates the APS licenses. You can sort by columns such as city or county to help narrow down licenses in your area. Use this as a guide to verify what you find.

Callsigns for FCC FRN: 0001604461 (Arizona Public Service Company)

Search 850-861mhz with your scanners and look for P25 control channels or P25 voice. P25 control channels sound different from the existing Motorola Control channels when you listen to the noise. Once you identify a control channel for system “00a”, then you can run the control channel through tools like Analyze in the HP1/2, Pro96Com, or Unitrunker to determine all the control channels, voice frequencies, and talkgroups once they start testing.

Was able to chat with an APS serviceman out checking my pole for bees in the boot (a different story) and I asked about a new radio system. He didn't know anything about that but did say they changed out all the truck radios recently.

Maybe upgrade to allow the P25 system....

Ok, I spent some time going through licenses. This is what I was able to glean.

"APSC shares its current legacy Radio System and plans to share this new P25 Radio System with the State of Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs (DEMA), who currently uses the APSC Radio System for similar purposes of having a reliable and resilient communications tool for state wide emergency response."

In all but four of the licenses, they are adding two new frequencies per site to begin the build-out of the P25 Phase II TRS.

"In order to facilitate uninterrupted service to current Radio System users, APSC is deploying the new P25 Radio System in parallel with the existing system. Additionally, APSC has planned to increase the level of coverage provided within the APSC service territory and along key transmission line corridors by also deploying additional tower sites for the new P25 Radio System..."

So, here is my compilation by license number for current and new/modified frequencies:

looking the thru licenses posted here and searching the FCC ULS are not turning up the new frequencies that APS are using - even a search for the range near them doesn't show up either

both mingus mountain and mt. francis have new control channels

mingus - 855.640
mt. francis - 860.7625 is still active

is there another way to search the FCC ULS to find these new frequencies being added?

there was an automated message on the old moto 2 system today as of saying something of the channel closing and if you think it shouldn't to call a number

i'll try to get the whole message next time it plays on the system

Jerry

talkgroups 25712 and 6480 has started to play the automated message this morning

no other talkgroups of yet today are carrying this message but that might change
