Default Newbie looking for first scanner

Hello, I am pretty new to the whole police scanner scene and have very little knowledge on the topic. That being said, I was wondering what would be a good police scanner for me to put in my car. I live in the Pheonix/Peoria area and take trips up to Flagstaff frequently. I am not looking to spend a lot of money, just looking for something to mess around with. After doing some research, I am aware that I do need a more expensive scanner.

Thanks,
FineV

For mobile use, best bang for the buck is by far the Radio Shack Pro-197. I see them on ebay for $150-$200, and they will handle digital systems and are sensitive in the VHF and UHF bands.

Pro 197, GRE 600, Pro 652, and Ws1065. Take your pick, they are all the same radio.

For the Car, I would go with a Whistler Ws1065. That would Cover the Phoenix RWC system, and the Flagstaff P25 Phase 1 system.
