First, lose the attitude. Second, I asked the question because I wanted to know what you find so interesting about it. Virtually every fast food place down here has at least one drive-thru, too.
There were a number of reasons why listening was good times.
It was easier to understand when they asked you questions about your order.
You could hear them question each other when they got it wrong, and hopefully got it corrected.
You knew when you'd better check your order, before you drive away.
They would discuss bad service and bad food and if it was you about to get screwed.
As they had intercom on ch.2, they would chat/ crack jokes/ talk about problem guests in store.
They would tell each other "last one" or "sold out", you could then order the last one, or not.
You could hear others orders and know if your screwed for a long wait in line, and just go in.
You could hear how picky/fussy & stupid some peoples orders were, I cringe for the staff sometimes.
Sometimes it was easier to pickup the HT and TX/RX directly when ordering especially during rain.
If you were picking up friends from work, you knew when they were off, or working late.
Do stupid things in the parking lot to entertain the DT slaves and listen to their reaction.
My future to be girl friend now ex-GF worked the DT and I could listen to her voice and listen to DT customers who needed a beatdown for talkin' to my (ex-) girl (to be) disrespectfully.
It is scanning, like all the other comms scanner people like tuning into.
Like reality TV shows before those happened, except you might know the charactors.
Little-bit o stalking for teens, but now teens do it internet-ally.
At least it was less weird than creapin' on baby-monitors.
You sound like my non-scanner friends (and then ex-GF), "why do you listen, that's so weird." and "were you sniffing my sweater just now???"
Being a member here, did you really need this one explained to you????????
Ham radio and scanning, passive voyeurism for geeks.
