I've encountered a little issue with one of the submit data pages.

Beneath the "System Talkgroups" heading on the various trunking pages for Victoria, Australia, there is a link for people to click on if they wish to submit data. If you click on this link you're taken to a page to which you must select the type of information that your wanting to submit. Naturally you would select the option that best suits, this can be done without a problem but it's worth nothing that this issue is caused when selected either Conventional or Trunked.

The next page that your presented with asks you to select an option for four fields (country, state, province, trunked system), I cannot get past this page. If I fill out the first two fields to reflect (Australia, Victoria) the province and trunked system fields do not show any options for me. If I ignore it and try to click on the submit button, it asks me to go back and fill in all fields. I can only assume that you need to complete the province field before the trunked system one opens up, but what if you can't fill in the province field? How do I proceed?

I can access this page no worries: Submit Data to RadioReference

If you look here, you'll see that the Australian States are actually listed as Provinces, so perhaps a crappy workround is to enter the State Name in both the State and Province fields.

I fixed that link to take you directly to the correct page.

There is some work that we need to do to get Australia data up to speed -- the problem is many of those trunked systems have "County" type entries set to "N/A" instead of "Province Wide" etc.

I'll huddle with the admin team and work to get these fixed. In the mean time, that link is now fixed.

RadioAustrialia,

Maybe you can help us clean up the Victoria Database. All the trunked systems currently listed in the Victoria region have "County" type entities as "N/A" - Can you help me identify which counties these systems should belong in?

We need to identify counties for the following systems:

Mobile Communication Systems (Melbourne) EDACS Standard
Melbourne Airport Motorola Type II Smartnet
Crown Casino Complex #2 Motorola Type II Smartnet
Crown Casino Complex #1 Motorola Type II Smartnet
Motorola Smartnet P/L - Rialto Towers System 1 Motorola Type II Smartnet
Motorola Smartnet P/L - Rialto Towers System 2 Motorola Type II Smartnet
Motorola Smartnet P/L - Mount Dandenong Motorola Type II Smartnet
Motorola Smartnet P/L - Collins Street Motorola Type II Smartnet
Mobile Communication Systems (Ferny Creek) EDACS Standard
CitiPower Motorola Type II Smartnet
Shell Refinery Corio Motorola Type II
Murradoc Hill Drysdale Motorola Type II

The following counties are defined for Victoria:

Central
Mallee
Northeast
West & South
Gippsland
Wimmera
East Gippsland
North Central
Northern Country
Western

Thanks!

Hi blantonl, the link now points back to the submission page. Thanks!!

Is it possible to get the counties of Victoria changed to more suitable ones? The current format that is being used has some gaps and it not only isn't area specific but has some coverage gaps. If this can be cleaned up now it will save anyone bumping into issues in the future. Below are my suggestions:

*South Western
*Gippsland
*Grampians
*Hume
*Loddon Mallee
*Eastern Metro
*North & West Metro
*Southern Metro

If your happy to get those fixed up, categorizing the trunked systems marked with "N/A" becomes so much easier.

Network: Mobile Communication Systems (Melbourne) EDACS Standard
Province: Eastern Metro

Network: Melbourne Airport Motorola Type II Smartnet
Province: North & West Metro

Network: Crown Casino Complex #2 Motorola Type II Smartnet
Province: Eastern Metro

Network: Crown Casino Complex #1 Motorola Type II Smartnet
Province: Eastern Metro

Network: Motorola Smartnet P/L - Rialto Towers System 1 Motorola Type II Smartnet
Province: Eastern Metro

Network: Motorola Smartnet P/L - Rialto Towers System 2 Motorola Type II Smartnet
Province: Eastern Metro

Network: Motorola Smartnet P/L - Mount Dandenong Motorola Type II Smartnet
Province: Southern Metro

Network: Motorola Smartnet P/L - Collins Street Motorola Type II Smartnet
Province: Eastern Metro

Mobile Communication Systems (Ferny Creek) EDACS Standard
Province: Southern Metro

Network: CitiPower Motorola Type II Smartnet
Province: Eastern Metro

Network: Shell Refinery Corio Motorola Type II
Province: South Western

Network: Murradoc Hill Drysdale Motorola Type II
Province: South Western

It would appear that information in the Victorian section section hasn't been touched since 2004, five whole years!!

The networks above are not county wide as you've correctly pointed out, they are area specific. Just a heads up for whoever is going to fix this up, i've got a pending submission for a trunking network (VIC SMR) that should be added as region-wide as opposed to a specific county.

Finally, the only county that contains information is Central, this contains VicFire frequencies. Simply transfer those frequencies into the Loddon Mallee county and everything is all nice and tidy. When I get around to it i'll submit corrections to those existing ones.

Please let me know how we go! :)

All done. I saw your submission for the Victoria SMR system - that's an MPT-1327 system, correct?
Thank you, it looks perfect now!

You are correct, the Victorian State Mobile Radio (VIC SMR) does indeed use the MPT 1327 system.

"It would appear that information in the Victorian section hasn't been touched since 2004, five whole years!!

That is the problem ... too few people submitting ANY information
Apart from industry insiders there are not that many people (ie radio enthusiasts) who understand what they are listening to (ie TETRA, Motorola Type II, EDACS, LTR, Smartrunk II etc) and who can correctly identify it, collect information (frequencies, talkgroups etc) then post here

If you want to contribute to Radioreference information on Victorian trunking and update the information here, can I suggest the following as a start:

VHF Trunking Systems
400MHz Trunking Systems
800 MHz Trunking Systems

MMR
MMR > Sites
MMR > Talkgroups

A lot of the information is out of date and requires revision - especially 800Mhz - where a number of systems have been either switched off or had their frequencies reduced for the introduction of TETRA (the WFM electronic hum noise)

Just a suggestion - as you well know - every australian state does their own thing, though there is a lot of discussion now about interoperability issues

Hi Grant,

I submitted info on NSW a year ago and it never appeared- so I didn't see any point in contributing any further. The last time I looked the NSW data was hopelessly out of date.

Cheers,

Who is checking the submissions that are being made?

Richard has raised an important issue, submissions are either not being assigned to a DB admin or being published. I've had a one of mine sitting in the queue for almost a week now and at time of submission there were 189 ahead of me, given the lack of Australian information (NSW excluded) I would of thought that this would be acted on rather swiftly.

The problem is - we have a very limited set of admins (I think two) for Australia. Remember, all the admin work is done on a volunteer basis.

I am more than happy to consider additional admins for Australia - as you can see we need the help. Please contact me directly at webmaster [at] radioreference.com and I'll work with you and Eric Carlson (or lead database admin and manager) to get you considered.

Thanks for your help guys,

Lindsay

Lindsay, I've noticed that if I use the "submit info" button on the top menu strip it takes me to the page that I cannot proceed past (as mentioned in my first post) - a fix is also required for this one.

P.S. Getting there with the AU data, slowly but surely! :)
