Tried 271A for Pennsylvania, "Lancaster County Rail" feed(No longer transmits, "seemed" to be fine, otherwise, may as well get some use out of it...). Worked great - EXCEPT - intermittent LOUD "noises", lasting from a second or two to many seconds. Figured, maybe, "RFI, from pagers at a nearby hospital?", though noise didn't sound like "familiar-to-me" pager noise(Other than it's irregular - could be transmitting, then not - duration.). Digital pager? EXCEPT - no other receivers "heard" it, even using same antenna - and the noise is WAY LOUDER than any normal signals, which were heard by all, just fine. Switched to using Yaesu 1500m, for feed. No "noises", works OK - EXCEPT, it does not receive quite as well or "sound" nearly as good as the Kenwood.
Powering rig with old 30A gel cel(Mostly for it's filtering, though it should still run a receiver for awhile if AC goes down.), with 1.5A, "automatic trickle charger"(Shumacher? The one you can get at a "Mart" or hardware store, about $30.) constantly attached. Will try a higher power charger to see if I'm not getting enough voltage/current(Kenwoods can be finicky - Yaesu, not so much, but they also don't sound as good.). Only thing I can think of. I'm not a tech and can't diagnose it much further without some help...
Any thoughts?
