It's amazing Rural fire and EMS even receive their dispatches' sometimes. A majority of the VHF pager transmitters they use (QuickCall II) are off-frequency, over/under-deviated, or poorly engineered, in the sense the SAME frequencies are re-used for neighbouring agencies, who both get dispatched to the same incident. (Capture effect of FM makes it nearly impossible to receive a dispatch when in overlapping-coverage area). All of this has verified with calibrated service monitors.

What a mess Manitoba is. The provincial government radio shop has no business maintaining public safety communications systems/networks. They do ZERO preventative maintenance.

Kind of off-topic, but it's related to the feed of the services mentioned in this thread.

So what do you listen to in WPG? Is the database updated?
Sorry for the late reply; I don't have notifications enabled.

There's really nothing left to monitor. The Transit supervisor channel is still in the clear, 153.770. But a majority of the comms are boring. Drunken idlers or meth heads passed out in bus shelters. Broken down buses, etc.

The only emergency services left are rural EMS, fire and interagency communications, and their related VHF QCII pagers.

The Winnipeg ham scene is fairly quiet, too. There are DMR, P25 and D-STAR repeaters on the air. But not interesting to monitor.

There's a fair bit of commercial security traffic which can be monitored; some of the details were posted to the RR DB this past spring/summer.

Overall, the scanning hobby is dead in these parts.
