To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi,

I've been working on learning my UV-5R, and one thing I notice is that when I put in a pl tone for R-CTCS it will not save it, even after I hit menu. It'll save it for T-CTCS. Any ideas?

Also, I want to set up the radio for a repeater that has an offset. So, if a repeater has an input of 122.1 (just an example) and the output is 124.1, under menu item 26 (offset) do I set it for 02.000? (in conjunction with menu item 25 Shft-D at +)

Another thought is can I go into my radio with Chirp, set the channel to have the Duplex as a plus, then go to offset and set it at 2.000000?

First step with a baofeng is to reset the radio (menu-40) change the voice to English or off (menu-14) im sure that can resolve the pl issue, i do my programming on the fly so i program by hand so i cant answer your chirp question. When i program i rarely use the offset and D-shift, i would do it in a manual format (e.g. uhf standard offset is a + 05.000mhz, my work had a repeater and the output was 464.025, i would save that in ch001 (example) then i would add (or subtract the offset depending upon + or - shift) the 05.000 to the 464 giving me my input of 469.025 and i would type that in and save it to ch001 also, when you hit exit, followed by V/M it should display the rx (464.025) and above should be "+-" symbols

Even though the menus let you go through the motions, you cannot edit memory channels in MR (channel) mode.

And in VFO mode, the only parameters of an existing memory channel that can be updated are menu 12 (T-DCS), menu 13 (T-CTCS) and the TX frequency. You key the TX frequency into the VFO and set menu 12 or menu 13 to the desired code/tone and save it to the target memory using menu 27 (MEM-CH).

To change any other parameter requires that to erase the memory channel and reprogram it from scratch.

See the Reference for UV-5R Menus

Yes. If you want your TX frequency to me 2 MHz higher then your RX frequency.

You can also set Duplex to "split" and key the exact TX frequency into the Offset field. This is how you program cross-band channels using CHIRP.

See the CHIRP Programming Guides and Examples on the Miklor website.
