• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi all.

Got my TYT MD-2017 last week and been enjoying it so far - been building a codeplug everything going well.

Except one time I wrote to radio and the screen has been blank ever since.

I've tried rewriting an older version of the data to the radio. I've tired upgrading the firmware.

Everything works, apparently - I just can't see it - it reads and writes in software and the firmware updater, and I can even use it to talk if I know what channel I'm on. I just can't see anything.

I've found one other user reporting this problem, but no solution.

Any ideas? Could I have a dud?

Thanks for looking.

Sounds like either the display has died or a cable going to the display is loose, not making contact. Send it back or call for warranty support. If paid with c.c. you may have some recourse to recoup your money.

Thanks for responding. The timing just seemed weird that it did it when I wrote to it. I was deathly afraid I'd done something wrong.

Fortunately it's only a week old and I bought it at HRO, so I'm fine there. My only question is whether to get a replacement or a refund.

If it's just me and one other guy, maybe the problem isn't widespread.

I took it back to HRO. they grumbled a bit, but exchanged it.

Funny thing is, after riding around in the car, about 4 hours of which was hot sun, it had a display when I brought it in, but both channels read "Disconnected". I told him the behavior was to sporadic to let it go outside the return window, so they gave me another one.

Not the MD2017, but I have had two TYT MD380 VHF radios with the same problem. Blank white displays. Both happened while the radios were in use, actually in QSO. I flashed the newest firmware from TYT but that didn't help. Nothing has helped. They operate normally but have no display. I gave up and purchased a radio from a different manufacturer.

might check, was the radio flashed with the right firmware. Did you use a gps version on a non gps radio? I did by mistake=, and after somebody on RR suggested I double check, that was it. I have a 390 with gps and by force of habit, on the 2017, I chose gps when I did not have the gps version. just and idea to try.

Just this morning I powered on my 2017 and the screen is blank/white. Worked fine yesterday. Will have to contact where I got it from.
