• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

My radio has 199 channels but instead of a single bank of 199 which I hear is how the other 898 variations are it has 2 banks of 99 channels each between A & B. My problem I'm having is for programming manually by hand the 99 B channels which for some reason won't allow me to program my CTCSS and DCS tones or reapeater offsets so I can only program simplex carrier squelch frequencies only. The keystrokes seem to acknowledge my entry as well as screen icons acknowledging the settings but the offsets and CTCSS and DCS tones won't take! HOWEVER I have no problem programming by hand the 99 channels on A band any frequencies I need requiring repeater offsets and or CTCSS or DCS tones. So for now I'm limited to 99 A channels with full features of programming, the other 99 B channels with just simplex and carrier squelch! My desktop is no longer so I am used to manual programming.

PLEASE can anyone help with ideas what may be wrong like a glitch or something and how to fix this?

Cheers from beautiful Provo UTAH

Edited: I now see that the OP is from 2017. Perhaps some of this will help you out, unit417. :)

This mentions the dual bank and single bank versions. IDK if it will help but it is another data point.

Perhaps factory reset the radio? Are you also using computer programming software? If so, perhaps the wrong base code plug was used by mistake or is corrupted.

Also, (after your get the radio up and running) if you find that the radio is not always breaking squelch on a known good signal, turn off power save. On our radios it was causing missed traffic. The green receive light was lit but squelch did not open; with either carrier squelch or tone squelch.
