This probably isn't a shocker granted the UV-5R is a budget transceiver. I'm having a hard time TXing and RXing with my UV-5R even on my campus repeater. We use a repeater for work in the I.T department and occasionally jump on The Physical Plant's repeater if we need to contact them.
Now I programmed my handset to work with both repeaters however, I am having a tough time TXing and RXing when I am not under the repeater. What can I do to improve these factors when I'm deeper into campus? I have a Nagoya antenna that's about 12 inches long. Do I need a better antenna? Are my shifts incorrect?
