• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I bought two of these radios, the 10 and 25 watt models. Both doing the same thing. It worked yesterday and since uploading the changes via the Leixen software it no longer transmits or receives. I can get it to "Hear" NOAA WX only if I am in VM mode and turn the squelch off. IF I write the same channel to memory with the lowest squelch setting, nothing heard but an indication of a signal is there.

I can hit the local Leesburg repeater on 146.700 with the correct PL setting using a VX-1R Yaesu with 1/2 watt but it says its full power out on the Leixen but get no indication the repeater is hearing it. Reset the radio to factory defaults with no change! what gives? Two radios with the same issues???? Have already sent the 25 watt one back to be checked but have a feeling its firmware and there is no way to upgrade the firmware in these radios according to Miklor site.

I used to love the 10w version, but the receiver and transmitter died in it. The reason everything turned upside down is that they’re cheap Chinese radios that weren’t built to last forever. Too many times those cheap radios failed me, so now I use only commercial equipment.

Leixen vv898 new Versions 1.0.7 and 1.0.8 Programming Problem

I used to love this radio, and so I just recently ordered four more of these. Two are version 1.0.7 and two are 1.0.8. Neither version can be programmed.
First I tried the factory software. It installs fine on my Windows 10 PC. When I run it, the Comm Port selector is all greyed out. Obviously it will not connect to the radio if I can't set the Comm Port.
Next I tried Chirp. While I can connect to the radio, the channels end up all placed in strange channel locations and it will not transmit.
Looks like Chirp is incompatible with the new version firmware.
I have not yet tried to manually program the radio as it would take forever.
Conclusion: Stay away from this radio unless you are looking for a $65 paper weight. This is so sad as I was a big fan of the older version Leixen vv898 radios.
