I know a lot of us on here look for durable quality radios to use on DMR but at the same time most of us have a budget to stick to. For those of us in this category I discovered yesterday that Hytera has forged a way into the amateur market with their AR482G UHF radio. I believe this is a fairly new radio and Hytera does have a good track record. For those of you not familiar Hytera is not exactly in the same category as baofeng etc.. They supply radios to law enforcement, security companies and anything else in between around the world.
Right now the radio is UHF only, no dual band. 350-470 MHz. The channel capacity is a little lacking at 256 channels but according to Jason Johnston at Ham Radio 2.0 Hytera claims they are working on raising that in the future. The screen is black and white, no color. I don't believe it is immersion rated but it is IP54 for some splash resistance.
All in all it looks like a pretty nice radio. If you go to www.hytera.us/amateur you can find more information. I know the market has been growing lately for "better" radios in the $170 - $220 price range and I think this is a nice addition. HRO has it for sale now at $209.
