• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hope this is the right section, figured it would best fit here.

Does anyone have any suggestion on a good PA speaker? I'm not looking for a PA system, just a speaker for a 959 Galaxy. With some general looking, 100 watts looks to be what I want, but I don't know just yet. Something in the range of 100db +. Is the radioshack 100watt PA speaker any good?

After a bit more reading, 100 watts is not what I'm looking for. I dont know why the Radioshack PA uses 100 watts and only offers 100ish db. I'm looking for a PA speaker that offers 110db or greater.

Are you going to use the speaker for out door listening/pa funcation, or just to listen to the radio out side the car or is this for inside the car?

Any normal out door 8 ohm speaker rated at 20 watts or better will work for out side, and any normal
8 ohm speaker rated at 5-20 watts will work inside the car.

Just because a speaker is rated at 100 watts, does not mean that the radio will drive it at 100 watts.

To get the 100 watts you will have to use a audio amp in line.

110db is a federal noise limit that even emergency sirens have to adhear to, so for you to try and get some thing louder is not going to work.

good luck

Yes, I do plan to use it outside. While I am in the market for a external CB speaker for inside my truck, thats not what this thread is about.

I know that 110db is the federal limit, so if I get something louder I wont be using it on federal roads.

I recently picked up a ASPC20 PA speaker off eBay for twenty five bucks plus sixteen shipping. It's a 20 watt built in amplified six inch PA speaker that is water and weather proof, is plenty loud and clear, and fit under the hood of my 1970 Bronco just fine.

I just did an eBay search and the cheapest I found tonight was eighty nine with free shipping, but I would still highly recommend.

I believe a CB radio's PA function is only 5 watts anyway, so regardless of the speaker's capability it will only put out 5 watts. Those 100 watt speakers are intended for emergency siren systems which do have 100 watt or more amplifiers.

Cabletech's reference to a 110db is a federal noise limit pertains to the speaker manufacturers. It has nothing to do with "federal highways". Check your state vehicle code as most states prohibit the use of any PA from a moving vehicle.
