• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I don't know much about CB Radios but I just got my hand on the Johnson Messenger 4145 and don't have any power cables for it.
What would I need to connect it to a car and possibly home power?

Any and all help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Google says Ken's Electronics has one, p/n CEA-JM2MH-FP, 3' 12VDC power cord with 2A inline fuse. Price is $15.89. Appears to fit several brands including EFJ, Motorola, Gemtronix, and Shakespeare. Check out the website (kenselectronics dot com) and check the other models it fits you might find one cheaper that way. Good luck with it, that's kind of an old-timer. Might want to open it up first and check for obvious capacitor degradation/leaking etc before putting power on it.

Thank you, I found that too but it has no pictures, reviews etc...
It seems like all CB radios pretty much use the same or similar cable (2, 3 pin), Ordered oine, will see how it goes.
Thanks for the tip!

What I meant was that a cord from one of those other make/model radios listed for the P/N would also work on yours. Possibly you could find one at a thrift store/Goodwill/etc for a few $$$ or even free if non-working & has been there awhile, but with the cord intact. Ken's price seems a little salty to me for what has to be a pretty simple power cord, but then I'm a skinflint.

But I would get the case off that radio and check the caps before you put power to it. Degraded caps can ruin an otherwise viable radio and often if you have soldering skills these old radios are easy to re-cap and pretty cheap to do as well. This presumes that the radio is special to you for some reason. While probably a pretty decent radio for its day, you can often find current 40-channel radios for a few bucks around the stores I mentioned above, on Craig's List, or at yard sales. Either way, good luck with it. I was on the CB during that radio's active phase, never owned one of that model but EFJ had a great reputation back then. I had a tube type Messenger 230. Haven't messed with a CB since the early '80s but I recall having a lot of fun with it before the band went to crap. Again, best of luck to ya.:D
