• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

That's a nice looking base station. Not too many around these days, might be the only one left hi hi. Alternative is to purchase a older base station in good condition.

If you going to use ssb the galaxy will drift some what. Never been a galaxy fan I am ssb only.. You can also use a mobile as a base all you need is a power supply..

If your looking for a good stock CB base there is no reason you can't use something like a Uniden 980SSB mobile with a power supply. I suspect it would work at least as good if not better than the Galaxy DX-2547 at half the price. And it will be much more frequency stable on SSB.

I am very happy with my Galaxy DX-2547. Drift is minimal if at all, and all is good after a 10 min warm up. I have had this one over a year, and plan on a second to go in my study

The old Cobra 2000 GTL is still the best CB base ever made. Finding one in good shape is not easy. Any you find will need a capacitor replacement service due to age. All that adds up.

The 2547 looks great but doesn't work nearly as well as a 2000.

The GE Supperbase is a contender for one of the best base staions ever made....I really like mine but I Use it as well ad the newer Uniden 980ssb. IMHO the 980 is a great modern mobile rig.

I think the 2000 GTL is a good radio but far, far from the best. If I remember from many years ago its just one of their upper tier SSB mobiles like the 148 GTL in a big box with a power supply.

Bought a President Washington used a few years ago, like it a lot. What's nice is the service manual is available and it is easy to work on. Nice looking radio too.
