Default Never hear anyone on 19

I only live a couple of miles away from a main highway but I never hear anyone using Channel 19, my radio, coax, and antenna are all good so reception is not a issue. Is 19 just not used anymore?

All depends on the area. Some places I go are busy and some are not. Here at home busy most of the time.

Same here. Iím about 2 miles from a steel mill and have about 3 truck yards all within 5 miles. On the base, I can talk to all of them, the furthest Iíve talked is 20 miles to another steel mill, the driver was totally cool with it

I've driven as much as 500 miles without hearing anything on 19 which is why I don't even keep the CB available anymore while I'm on the road. Now I play with the scanner, 2/,70m ham or the satellite radio,

Lots of action in the Southwest! Check the truck stops along the main Interstates.

Default Same here on 19

I have driven from the mountains to ocean in North Carolina without hearing a thing on channel 19.
The strange thing is that every truck I see has a CB antenna.

Once I used my Midland 75-822 in the car. I put it in scan mode just to see if someone was using any other channels. It kept stopping on the skip on 6 and 11, but nothing else.

At home with a long wire, I hear skip on channel 6 and 11 every night, but nothing on the other channels.

Yes, I agree with K5MPH. It depends on the area of the country where you live and/or drive. On IH35, I have heard radio traffic from Minneapolis to San Antonio, Texas. I drive to work daily and talk on the CB. Are you using a portable CB?

People don't use channel 19 all the time. They can be on any channel. While I was home today with the radio in scan I heard at least 6 conversations, only 1 was on 19. The radios have 40 channels, except for channel 9 all are for use. If I sit on 19 I might think no one is on. Scan all 40 you will hear the action. It's not like it was 20 years ago but they are out there.

Thanks, I will program those in and see if I get anything. Speaking of VHF and CB, I hear more on CB than I do on 2 meter ham. I heard someone on 146.52 yesterday, and was shocked. First time in over a year or more. I hear two truckers right now on channel 22 chatting back and forth but getting out of range now. Channel 19 once today and that was just a radio check.
