IFR FM/AM-1500 FM/AM/SSB Communications Service Monitor with Spectrum Analyzer and Tracking Generator
NOTE: This unit has some issues, please read.
Based on looking up information on the IFR FM/AM-1500, it's basically an IFR 1200 Super S with all of the options. It has the Tracking Generator, Spectrum Analyzer, and many more features.
Per the Operator's Guide manual, it has the following functions:
1. Signal Generator (with selectable offset for duplex testing)
2. Communications Receiver
3. Tracking Generator
4. Spectrum Analyzer
5. Sweep Generator
6. Oscilloscope
7. Two programmable Tone Generators
8. Power Meter
9. Frequency Error Meter
10. Modulation Meter
11. SINAD Meter
12. Audio Frequency Counter
13. Signal Strength Meter
This service monitor powers up okay and the screen shows "self-test complete NO ERRORS DETECTED".
The Spectrum Analyzer and Oscilloscope work as expected (see pictures). The RF FREQUENCY, OFFSET and TONE1 & TONE2 values can be entered through the keypad.
The screen display shows what is expected on all of the DISPLAY settings (please see pictures).
A tone is heard on the speaker when switch to the left of the volume control is up in "INT TONE" and the VOLUME Control adjusts tone amplitude level on the speaker. Lowering the SQUELCH control causes the "SIG" LED to go on as expected.
I'm NOT able to get it to output an RF signal or receive transmissions from an HT that I tested it with. I entered 445.0000 MHz for the Frequency. When transmitting with an HT portable set to this frequency, the signal shows up on the Spectrum Analyzer display, the SIG LED comes on and some fluttering sound is heard on the IFR's speaker. When it is set to GEN, nothing is heard on the HT.
The analog and digital meters show expected RF Output in Watts from the HT on transmit on the 15 Watt and 150 Watt settings.
Frequency and tone values can be entered into memory when the DISPLAY control is in the FREQS mode. The entered values are retained when the monitor has been off and powered back on.
This is a very sophisticated unit with many features and functions. No additional testing beyond what is mentioned about has been done.
Electronic copies of the Operator's Guide and Maintenance Manual documents can be provided.
