04/04 ~ Around 11:30 Denver Firefighters were dispatched to an automatic class 1 fire alarm at 1590 Yates Street. First arriving Chief 6 & Truck 12 found a 14 story apartment building with nothing showing on arrival. Engine 17 arrived and began connecting to the FDC when the alarm company notified dispatch of a fire on the 11th floor. Chief 6 requested a group and performed a 360. Engine 17 & Truck 12 checked the panel, found multiple detectors activated on the 11th floor and ascended to investigate. Chief 2 was assigned as Lobby Control and confirmed 14 floors plus a penthouse in the building. Upon making the 11th floor Truck 12 reported a working fire, prompting command to transmit a 2nd Alarm. A small kitchen fire was quickly located and knocked down while searches on the fire floor and floor above took place. With moderate smoke conditions inside, residents from two floors were evacuated to the lobby. All searches proved negative, no extension to neighboring units was found and no injuries were reported. The 2nd Alarm companies were released from staging while the 1st alarm worked on ventilation and water containment.
