plume is almost all black smoke now, $500k + homes in this area, per scanner most all homes on peregrine way and darr drive are gone.

Plume has doubled in size:

Lots of monitoring opportunities, taking lots of houses and we're discussing on Zello all afternoon as well if anyone interested in joining.

More than 28 square miles of Black Forest now under mandatory evacuation. Everyone be safe!

Now at 7,500+ acres burned and 1,200+ homes evacuated. I think the El Paso County Sheriff estimated damaged or destroyed homes to be in the tens of homes...MAFF from Peterson AFB will join the fire fight tomorrow.

UPDATED Mandatory Evacuation for #BlackForestFire - East of Meridian to Eastonville, Ayer North all the way to Hogden. - 10:20 p.m.

A little late?

I'm not sure if anyone archived the scanner traffic at the start of this, but around 16:00 to 16:15 today BFFD was still staging along the east side of this fire and having local (El Paso County) units hold in their stations.

I specifically heard Ft Carson Fire and Broadmoor Fire report available resources relayed by dispatch and were told to stand by from Command / Operations.
I wonder if they're rethinking that choice now that it's over 8,000 acres....

Later there were water supply issues because a specific adapter was unavailable for Tenders to draft from Cisterns.

Are Scanner archives ever used in the after action analysis?

I would think that most, if not all radio traffic would be recorded at the point of origin, meaning the dispatch centers themselves. They wouldn't need to access scanner archives like RR/Broadcastify, unless *maybe* they have a glitch in-house.

but I have not seen any live video from today.

Does anyone have a confirmed Air to Air Freq? I think it's all Military from the Ft Carson 4th CAB
I've been monitoring 121.075 on a scanner and an AM portable (VXA-710) and neither are picking up any traffic. I'm line of sight to the fire and can see Helo's with Telephoto lens

Black Forest Fire

I live in Boulder so I cannot monitor active fire aviation frquencies on scene. Tanker base at Metro is usning 123.975 A-G with the tankers. One tanker asked Ops at Metro if 123.075 was active and was told no. The active frequency is 122.925. I cannot confirm this.

BINGO!

I can confirm Air to Air traffic on 122.925 as of 16:00

FW speaking about rotor craft underneath them.
It sounded like a Lead Plane speaking to the DC-10

Now that type 1 federal team has taken over, think we're going to soon see a new comm plan.

Fed tac 1 = 168.050,
tac 2= 168.200,
tac 3 = 168.600,
tac 4 n/a,
tac 5 = 168.700

Black Forest Fire ops are on El Paso County Red, C2,C4,C6,C7,C9, CSFD command 4,6,9, DTRS MAC11, 12 and Online.

however they can be assigned different numbers on the 205.
